Re: d16a6 redline?? (jisu009)
The stock redline on the D16a6 (Si) engine is 6500rpm, marked on the tachometer. The fuel cutoff is at 7200. The engine typically *will* pull to its fuel cutoff when properly warmed up, but Honda's highest recommended revs are 6500rpm - hence the redline marked on the tach.

Re: (ryan89crx)
well. this is a question i ask myself every day. i guess it depends on how brutal you want to be. i have seen a dyno chart of a stock d16a6 with rev limiter removed make power to 8200 rpm before it drops off. the drop off is a concern because when you hit that you have to worry about valve float and rotational inertia being too great for your engine to handle. your stock honda fuel cut is 7200. i have my ecu chipped to run up to 7000 rpm and cut.. and i consider myself being horribly conservative on that. either way, obviously the higher in rpm you go, the more stress your engine sees so there are a lot of factors in this.
cliffs notes: basically it is a choice you need to make. if you are stock, i would not go over 7200 under any circumstances unless you have money to swap a motor or rebuild a head, or something like that. it makes power to 8200 on 91 octane, and you can use that information at your own risk.

i just found this link searching around. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1316623 i am trying to find that dyno chart i saw, but maybe i am crazy. i would also be a liar if i told you i didnt go above 6500, because i do, and probably more than i should.

A stock/regular D16a6 quits producing more power after 6000. Its still producing at least some of the peak hp at 7200+ but some people think the additional noise must mean more power.
Given the decrease in power, and the nearly exponential increasing stress each +1000 rpms is creating, it makes absolutely ZERO sense to rev past 6500.
Of course this is on a stock motor.
And don't think the fart can muffler and ebay intake mean you're not stock. If you've got the stock intake manifold, cam and of course, the ecu...I'm talking to you.

Intake, stock header, 2.5 exhaust with 22in resonator and turndown.
It makes power up to 6500.

Okay, if you want to discuss specific dynos...the 1 hp difference between 6000-6500 and rapidly disappearing torque curve is hardly justification to hang on past 6000.
I will cede that getting up to redline lands your next upshift at a slightly better spot on the powerband...but going that high for the power is questionable practice.

but i do have a spare if something decides to give up, so thats probably why i dont worry much
