I was considering using a heat gun to straighten out the top. Anybody have comments on that idea?

Mine too. I'll post a thread in the next 2 weeks when I go over my interior with foam tape.

No? I mean my dash. The part where the back sits flush to the lowest part of the windshield. It's wavy almost.

Well the two screws on the back of the dash for the outside air vent were loose. Also the two screws the put the temperature **** onto the climate control were loose. But I still have not located the final noise...

i've eliminated most of the rattles in my car with foam insulation tape, copper pipe insulation, rubber washers and zipties.
I've traced rattles to the following parts:
1. front seats. move the top half back and forth and you may find lots of play.
2. cables for the hatch and gas lid. clips get worn out, the factory insulation crumbles and the cables eventually make noise.
3. window regulators. the handle could have some play and the assembly is propably worn out.
4. door locks. the rods are the problem. the linkages bind if you wrap them with insulation.
5. glove box.
6. cables and ductwork for the hvac system. wrap the ductwork and cables with insulation tape to eliminate rattles.
7. dash. insulation between the firewall and dash works well.
8. rear spoiler. you could install rubber washers between the hatch and spoiler to reduce rattles.
9. cargo cover.
i've replaced the poly mounts in the shock tower with oem and that eliminated some rattles.
my car is pretty much rattle free until it sees some railroad tracks.

Re: CRX noise elimination hatch squeak dash rattle (RockinthEFhatch)
i can vouch for the electrical tape on the loop and unscrewing the rubber stoppers almost all the way, the other thing that i did personally that really helped with the hatch squeak was to use door hinge grease on the rubber stoppers.. the hatch squeak is normally caused by them rubbing the body beucase there is not enough tension to keep them down and keep the hatch from moving

My old car used to have foam glued to the door, with a hole drilled through were the road that connected to the lock sat. It stopped it from contacting with the door. I'm going to put them on my other car, which doesn't have them. Im pretty sure it will hopefully get rid of that rattle.

Re: CRX noise elimination hatch squeak dash rattle (rexie)
Well this thread inspired me to yet again try to eliminate all the rattles in my civic.
The worst rattle ended up being the remnants of a broken window that had fell into the door air vents and under the dash. luckly I think this might have been the easiest vent to pull loose. I ended up with a small hand full of glass.
the center dash vent and gauge cluster rattle. I cut some small chunks of rubber and crammed it under them so they were tight. I just used small enough peices that you cant see.
Then spurred on by being sick as hell and having nothing to do, I pulled apart all of my alarm wiring and other wiring I had previously done to my car. I removed all of the butt connectors ( that were professionaly installed by a local shop yeah right) and soldered them back, along with wrapping the wires and running them in better routes, zip tied everthing, tons of electrical tape. I did this under the dash and along the runners and to the trunk. I finaly mounted the brain of the alarm, It's just been rattling around for 2 years.
I spent about 3 days about 10 hours a day working on that. I just kept finding new things as i went. And with no work and nowhere to be I decided to delve much deeper that I typicly would
Now mind you this wasnt a "rats nest", at all. I just knew I could improve it.
I was extremely suprised at how clean I was able to make my alarm. also i cannot hear it rattling around anymore
I am amazed at how quiet my car is
thanks for the wild hair guys

EDIT: Crazy old post, my bad.
A buddy of mine installed it in his 93 Civic and it greatly reduced road noise. He used it below the carpet right up to the firewall. HUGE improvement. However, if you like the sound of your engine, this might not be the best choice, it pretty much silences everything.

Re: CRX noise elimination
Back from the dead, wow! Well now I'm near 360k miles. Still got the squeaks. On the tailgate I have tried the tape. Didn't do much. If as I'm driving I pop the rear hatch, all the squeaks go away. Rereading this thread makes me think it may be the struts or the weatherstripping as has been stated seven years ago here. LOL
