Why not just do it yourself? Its a pain to drop tanks but Im sure it will be worth the money you save. BTW ebay has good aftermarket replacement tanks that fit correctly and come with new gaskets.

Removing your gas tank is actually simple - 10 minute job. Jack it up, Drain it, unbolt it.

I think that 75% of these questions asked on Honda-Tech could be resolved much quicker and it much greater depth if each person were to just go to the store and buy a helms manual, or something like it - $20. You won't regret it.

helms manuals are great, not the best for real complicated work, but great for stuff like this.
the hoses were a pain in the *** when i dropped my tank, thants about it tho

The Helms are the best, there is NO better manuals
Even the Honda techs at the dealer use Helms

Back in high-school, a kid I had known since elementary school was killed from carbon monoxide poisoning. Working on your car in a closed garage while it is running = bad idea. Just my .02. Please always take caution when dealing with fumes and work in a properly ventilated area

Good idea, the tank was one thing that I refused to touch. Figure on about 100 for a tank from Autozone, and between 100 and 200 to get it installed. Don't try it yourself, as I am about to explain...

Don't be an ***... these cars are at least 16 years old. There is rust, the gasoline needs someplace to go, the blots WILL break off, and if he's got a bad tank already, then there is even more rust than usual.

Your advice is worth about as much as his tank is.

No they don't.

I hate you EF forum, I really do. I have to help though, just because I'm taking pity on those of you in here.

If you have a breathing problem then DO NOT DO THIS. You will get rust in your lungs, and gas fumes. Take it to a shop... I rebuilt my CRXs and Civics, I did 3 B16 Swaps, in my own garage, and I still refused to touch the gas tank. Let someone else handle that mess.

Sorry to make you cry. If you don't like this forum, then don't post in it. It's as simple as that.

I'm protecting people from idiots like you.

Bad advice is killing this forum and this site. My dislike has nothing to do with the validity of my good advice.

Don't tell people that changing the gas tank on an EF is a 10 minute job... you obviously haven't done it if that's what you think. You won't last long if you keep that crap up.

thanks for the info VashTheStampede, i appreciate it. just wanted the truth, haha.

that's what im saying though, i rebuilt the rex already, and a gas tank is something that even though it seems pretty self explanatory.. still seems pretty dangerous.

that's why i made this post, to ask people if they have brought their EF to a SHOP to get a tank put in, and how much..

so thank you for actually answering my question

gas tanks are easy.... /end. go to your pepboys get new straps its 37.46 for tthe straps with hardware, buy your tank and probebly a new fule pump because if your swaping tanks always good for a new pump. jack the car up put a jack under the tank with a small piece of wood to support it losen the two bolts holding the straps, or do what i did it was too rusted i used metal sheers to cut the straps lower the tank slightly drain the tank then take off the hoses on the driver side, should be about 5 of them. unplug the plug from under your lock box and push the harness thru and drop the tank all the way. instalation is in reverse order.. i had to do this when i bough my crx the hacked up exhaust put a hole in my gas tank thank god it came with a new tank, i just bought the straps and pump. over all took about 2 hours.

as for rust getting into your lungs, dont lay under the car with your mouth wide open and do the swap outside you will barely notice the fumes.

No problem... my tank was shot, and it is a terrible thing that have to change one of those by yourself. I'm older and wiser now, and even with a lift, I just don't want that headache, and I don't wish it on anyone....

man, instead of posting worthless post bickering, lets just help a kid out...
here you go...straight from the manual.
Oh and you don't have to worry about the fumes unless you're severly sensitive to things like this but if you're normal, it would take years of continuous fumes to get you ill or anything, so long as you work in a well ventilated garage or something, just don't go sniffing the tank and pass out!

I dropped the gas tank to install a new fuel pump. It really wasn't all that bad. The lines are a bitch, and the bolts are way up on top of the tank where you can't see, so you gotta reach around blindly. It certainly isn't a 10 minute job, but if you have experience wrenching, you can do it.

I did a B16 swap in my driveway and could have done the tank as well, but for $100, I was happy to avoid the trouble.

Replacing the tank really isnt that big of a deal if you have any common sense, looks like vash is lacking in that area.

actually most of the mechanics use a software version of the helms manual. Everything is exactly the same.
