Default crx eats batteries for fun....

my crx keeps killing my batteries, its already went thru 4 batteries...
is it my alternator?
when i turn the car on in the mornings or when its been sittin for about 5 minutes the alternator belt squeeks...it goes away after a minute or two.
is the alternator going out or do i need to replace the belt?

my belt is pretty tight. i tightened the crap out of it to get it to stop squeeking. and my battery light doesnt come on when im driving it so thats why im blaming the alternator

its so easy to replace the belt, just loosed the alternator bolt and remove, after that if your car still dies, id suggest testing the alternator. it could be a faulty part that may be able to be replaced. My jetta had a bad alternator, fixed it and it never died

chaos theory your belt could be out of alignment with the pulleys.
most likely your belt needs changing

i dont think this is the root of your problem.
first you have to test and see if its charging.

you could have a drain on the system.
did you do any electrical type work before this problem started?

to see if there is a drain on the system, or back feed somewhere
make sure everything is off, doors closed, anything that would make any electrical function.

disconnect the negative battery cable.
put a test light between the negative post on battery and the negative cable on the car
if it lights up, there is a drain/ short in the electrical system some where
