The CRX that could....
I purchased a 1991 CRX chassis from a good guy on Indycarz.com a year ago. Since then I've been working on restoring it to it's stock look. The previous owner had it for a while, but some 15 year old got a hold of it, wrecked it's look, then gave it back after some time.
The good:
- Not a spot of rust
- Not one dent
- The headliner is in perfect condition. That is all.
The bad (not for the faint of heart):
The bumper turn signal, somewhere underneath all that....
Even the Honda badge wasn't safe...
Side marker....
The rear, AFTER I took off the coat of paint on the tail lights. Not a scratch on the stock tail lights, I was pleased...
The CRX was obviously used for mudding, because when I opened the front quarter panels, a pile of dirt fell out, here's a shot of the bottom:
All the colors under the sun:
The driver's side door panel, ruined. I pitched it.
The interior was as bad as the underbody:
Behind the seats:
The rear, nice spare tire cover! Too bad all that was underneath it was literally 2 pounds of dirt!
Another rear shot:
The dash:
And now for the engine bay....nothing was spared Wal-Marts rattlecan discount day:
Baby Blue!
......
.....
......
.......
Um....yeah:
The front:
I've been working since to get it restored, the car has gone under some drastic changes since I took these pictures. It took all winter just to clean the inside and sand down the outside. Literally thousands of hours. I'm going to save the pics of after shots once I get a paint job, sometime later this year, unless I win the lottery, or someone wants to volunteer to do the job..........(crickets chirping).

Re: The CRX that could.... (Under Con. CrX)
Thanks! I'll be finally done cleaning and sanding it in a few weeks. You wouldn't even recognize it! Well, the exterior is still an eye sore, because I've reached about 4 different colors of paint sanding haha. But it's SMOOOOOOTH ugly paint now

I'm thinking a nice coat of red. I love CRX's in red.
Engine: Either a B16B (EK typeR) for my first choice, B16A (92-95 spec SiR II) for my second. Just want something that drops/bolts in with maybe a cable conversion, or a YS1 tranny. Maybe Turbo down the road if I can keep it safe from rust.

Re: The CRX that could.... (EGJason)
It's bedtime, my arms are like jello from wet sanding all day, and I'm badly sunburned because I was too stubborn to find shade or wear sunblock :-P
Hope this thread shocks a few people, I'll post after shots of the cleanup in a few weeks.

Yeah, after thousands of hours of work on it already, it won't be seeing any hint of snow if I can help it! Moving to chicago soon too, so it'll be worst haha. How it made it in Indianapolis and not a spot of rust is beyond me...night all!

Yeah, it would be hard for metal to rust when it’s encased in paint. I dread the sanding that you’re going to have to do! Keep posting.

yeah yeah I know...but 4 rust spots in the rockers and then the entire spot behind the seats were gone. Did I mention the radio antenna was rusted out? How does that happen? I know it is sad to take one down, but the CRXsters parts live on.
