Default CRX B16a help! please! i would appreciate anything!

ok im gonna try to make a long story short. i have a beautiful crx si. when i bought it it had 80k. blew the motor at 100k. garaged for 2 years. dropped in a b16a last year. stopped starting 6 months in. here in lies my problem. she ran great for that six months, except for the fact i dont think the vtec ever worked. which is another question. im not well acquainted with the in-depth technical savvy that most people on this site, but i know a little. all shes doing is turning over. its been like that since it stopped. i can hear the fuel pump prime, relay is clicking, was getting spark on all cylinders. i replaced the igniter plugs wires fuel filter, none of it seemed to work. that is until, after i replaced the igniter, it didnt work, so i put the stock on back in. later that night, for some reason, i did a spark test by grounding the plug and wire against the frame, and she sounded like she started. i put the plug back in and she started right up! didnt idle rough or anything. ran perfect..... for 5 days, and went back to doing the same stuff. shut off while i was driving, wouldnt stay cranked if i stopped, until it stopped starting at all. finally lost spark in the first cylinder. could it be a distributor all along? im starting to go crazy over this... any help would be appreciated.

also, if my ecu is throwing up a flash code for the speed sensor(because it doesnt work) and the check engine light is on, could that be the reason for my vtec not working?

The speed sensor needs to be functional.
As the ecu takes some variables into account, before activating vtec (rpm, engine temp, engine oil pressure and vehicle speed).

Have you done a tune up? Just the basics, like plugs, wires, cap and rotor? Have you tested the coil? If I were you I'd look into the dizzy. I've had trouble with mine in my b16. Also, what kind of plugs are you running? Is this a JDM b16?

yeah.... its a jdm b16a obd0. when it originally happened, i replaced alot of it. plugs ( a thousand times, seems mine foul out real quick) wires, fuel filter, igniter. none of it worked. it just kept turning over, never starting.... only when i put the originally igniter back in figuring that it wasnt the problem and no need in spending the money, grounded the first cylinder, it started back up fine.... ran for less than a week though. im getting really frustrated it though. she was the first car i ever got, almost 8 years ago, and ive put less than 11k on it. i love her, i dont know why shes giving me problems

yeah, thats probably what im gonna end up doing... is replace the dizzy. cause recently, like last night, i lost spark, so im kinda leaning towards the dizzy failing me. and i was thinking about doing an obd1 conv. anyway. the man who did the swap screwed me over. when the engine was shipped here, i didnt get a chance to look it over.... and all the sudden he tells me he lost my ecu so he had to get another one! wtf?! it turns out it was a rather old beaten up severely used pr3 from locash. i found that out an hour ago. im not trashing locash, but it was pretty f***ed up looking ecu. beware of complete douches!

If you are fouling out like you say, and have so many running issues, check and re check the timing, make sure it hasn't jumped a tooth.

do wat sleepinciv says...swap out for new one or one that u kno works
i have a b16a rex and a b18a teggy and i had the same problem with
my dizzy...i was driving and then out of no where it shut off
turns out it was the bearing inside dizzy and i didnt figure it out till it started
like grinding and fire-ing all bad...and if u take ur old one for core charge
dismantle it like crazy u might need things from there afterwards
hope this helps

i would check your grounds and the ecu connections. were your 4 wires for vtec ever hooked up? vtec also doesn't work with the check engine light...need to fix whatever is causing the codes.
you can probably find a cheap used 90-93 integra distributor and modify it to fit...i ran that way for 2 years before getting a new b16 distributor. ecu may be an issue, but i would suspect these other things first.

Yeah I second getting a new dizzy, I have had this problem with a D-block once. The bearing wen ton the dizzy and it got so hot that it melted the rotor button, but it would still spark on one cylinder all the time and the other 3 randomly. It was really wierd. That ECU sounds kind of suspect as well.

Any updates bud? Have you tried switching out the dizzy like people suggested? I agree with what that other fellow said about grounds. Check all your grounds and make sure they're solid. Check the one's from the valve cover to the chassis and the tranny to the chassis - I've had issues with these particularily.

Just serviced a car with same problem. After looking through it, I found the rotor was held on the dizzy with a wood screw! So the rotor itself was wobbly and loose. Causing a no spark situation. I replaced the screw with correct one for customer and she fired right up

well, i just got done towing my car back to the homestead. shitty indeed. for ***** and giggles, i took apart the dizzy just to see if i could see anything visually wrong. put it all back together...... started right up.... drove around for a minute, and alas, same problem as before. ran fine, and shut off while i was driving. its probably just a bad dizzy. i just dont want to spend the money without being absolutely sure. is there anything i should look for, just to be sure of that fact?

Check out the "CRX type 2 vtec supplement" shop manual.
There is some dizzy troubleshooting stuff in there.
