Default Car overheating, Low on coolant......no coolant leaks, any ideas?

Let me explain.

Car overheated twice. I added a ton of coolant both times and its fine. Problem is I never see any puddles. I thought it could be head gasket, but I dont see any coolant in my oil. (would it be visable?)
...Could it be the water pump? Or a slow leak?? Any help or explanations would be super.

dave, did you drain the oil to see what it looks like or check from the dipstick?

the coolant must be going somewhere. either its in your oil, its leaking somewhere or you are burning it...

Did you do any work on the cooling system recently? When i replaced my radiator at first i forgot to bleed the cooling system caused my car to overheat once in a while (mainly when sitting still) and never seemed to be full on coolant.

Do you smell anything burning when you turn off your car?

did you check your coolent resevior (sp?) Maybe it's dumping your coolent in there.

Also, check your water pump. and the coolent bleed Valve

When oil and water mixes, you can see it bubble up and seperate from each other.
Did you see any green liquid in your oil? If not then it's fine.

First do a pressure test of the collant system. This should pin point what is leaking. Hoses, radiator etc are easy to spot but if its internal it may only show up in the cylinder itself.. Take the pluggs out a trun it over with the starter. Have someone stand to the side, unless you want to shower them with coolant. they will be able to pin point which cylinder is cracked or head gasket is blown.
