a/c compressor
My a/c compressor went out in my 91 si hatchback and I was wondering if any body knows if I can put any compressor as long is a D series or does it have to be from certain year only? Thanks for the help.

I'd stick with the same year range (88-91) and brand (Mitsuba or Sanden) just to make your life easier. I'm pretty sure the mounting locations vary slightly on other generations.

Im in the same boat (my compressor went out also), Ive been reading that you also need to replace the dryer when you replace the compressor. Can anyone confirm that?

I agree, use the same year and type. If you open the system moisture from the air will enter and contaminate it. I would recommend putting in a new or rebuilt compressor. I got mine off ebay. Works great and still no problem (Over 2 years now). If keeping R12 in your ride, may need it to be professionally done. Evacuate the system of R12 then change compressor and dryer then have it recharged with R12. $$$
My system was opened for a few months after my swap. I installed a new compressor and dryer and converted to R134A it is cheaper than R12 and is available in auto parts store. It blows cold enough for me, but not as cold as R12 would be. Just depends on where you live.
