Default Best suspension under 2500

Yes I know use the search function.. and yes I have spent hours reading up on best suspension for my car but all this post are over 3-6 years old. so I decided to open up a new thread in 2015. I've narrowed down my search to 3 popular coilover that are very controversial in the Honda tech community. keep in mind that this is a very generalized post I'm not looking for extremely stiff rates 5-600lbs range.

#1) Ground control/koni yellow setup. that go for 1049$ before shipping and that's the Honda tech special that they offer the highest spring rate they have that you can pick through this choice on their site is 430/430lbs. These come valved ready to go. You can also buy them separate.. get the dampers and coils separate but that means you gotta go get them valved by a pro. but you could choose your own spring rate.. which could more or less depending where you live who you know blah blah blah.. judging from the feedback that the HT community put in is that these are "The best bang for your buck" and have a lot of positive feedback.. plus a decent amount of videos on YouTube.

#2) AMR Engineering- These MONOTUBE coils are so controversial on HT I've read a whole thread from. like 07 to 2014. they go for 1525$ before shipping on their site. It had positive feedback and ALOT of negative. not so much about the actual coils themselves but the actual company. The workmanship is amazing and they are the go to coils on a lot of forums and read ups on other sites.
( http://www.redshiftmotorsports.com/RedShift%20Tech%20Page.htm ) <-- really good read on a ef track build also gives different setups you can go with depending on your budget and goals.. but again this is last updated back in 08.. hence why I'm starting this thread. so the negative comments were directed to the length wait times for people receiving their coils some people waiting even a year! for there coils.. people saying that they kept telling them they will receive them in a couple weeks but still nothing, there is even a Facebook group about AMR and people reporting them to police.. again these are rumors I'm not saying AMR is a bad business. And I have no personal experience YET but I was going to buy their coils yesterday. so close to purchasing them had my info all put in but then I chickend out..

#3 KW variant 3
these are suppose to be the the best of the best according to reviews that's I've read on HT. I don't think I've seen a bad review yet they are expensive 2161$ before shipping is the cheapest I've found. so what setups do you guys have ? any new ones that are out their. again I'm not cheaping out on a setup I just don't want to spend 5k on some f1 race setup. something under 2500 that are proven and reliable.

Nice information!
Good setups for track use. Not sure if many people would enjoy those on a commuter.
Thanks for putting this together!

You are a day early though - come back tomorrow to post in 2015.

haha yeah I know happy new year btw and again this is just a generalization I just used 5-600 as a number for example but yeah I got a buddy that has the AMR setup waited 5 months for them but said the wait was worth it he has 600/600 setup for an aggressive street setup because he does track on the weekends says it's not that bad I've been in his car and personally it really wasn't that bad.. again this all comes down to personal preference right

I bought the Koni yellow - ground control package from TH Motorsports off hondatech. I went with 500/400 spring rates and really like them for aggressive driving. I took my 91 Civic Si to a local track (Arroyo Seco in Deming, NM) last year and they did very well. It was my first time at an event like this so I may not be the best judge of how they really worked but I seemed to have no problem getting around the track at all. I was on some Falken Azenis Rt615k which seem to be junk now but it felt great that day. My car has a jdm b16a with a couple bolt ons and throughout the entire course the car felt so agile and quick.

I like this setup because it you want to buy another set of springs they really aren't too expensive and you could buy a softer spring rate for daily use, then switch back to your harder springs when going to an event. I also like how the koni'is are adjustable and rebuildable. I drive this car maybe 1200 miles a year tops so I never swap springs but do like the convenience of being able to do so.

Thanks for your input jonGSR and yes I've looked into the gc/koni setup they are dependable and sought after in the HT community. and they are a decent track setup for a twin tube coil. This setup in my mind would be the best for the guys and girls out with a daily driver that STILL track on occasion and don't need a stiff spring rate, monotube design for a more aggressive race application.

Plus unlike any other company, you get lifetime warranty with Koni and lifetime warranty with GC. And neither has a clause that limit to off-road use only.

As you do different things, you can revolve the konis and increase spring rates from Eibach or GC. And don't forget, if you only want to ride low comfortably, but spend on good susp - they will get you custom spring rates and spring lengths, capt keys! did that for his setup and doesn't track his car.

And he's friendly with sharing info. Just please research before calling if you go that route, GC doesn't specialize in stance setups.

I was going to go KW with my build. However after one season of autocross my friends Kw coilovers on his s2000 already needed a rebuild. Sure it's covered but with about 10,000 miles I'm not sure I constantly want to send them off to get rebuilt.

They're still awesome and I would have still gone KW but found some Toda Fightex instead.

Have you thought about progress? They have a new version with adjustable struts coming out spring time. Adjustable spring rates and solid reviews here. The CS2's start around $600 and the new CS3's will be above $800.

Yeah, I've only heard great things about progress, and that's both from track use and street use. I'm looking to go with their setup on my ef...that is after i dig myself out of my holiday hole.

A lot of people in the autocross community use a Koni race and Ground Control setup. I'm not sure how much of an advantage you can gain from the race with lower spring rates, but you can run up to 1000 lbs safely. I'm probably going with this setup in the spring after some more research on what rates to get.

Chris at Redshift can get you in the right directions for shocks. He knows his stuff about shock setup's on EF civic's. The site is dated, but the info is still good today.
Koni yellows with GC springs are used on a lot of autocross cars. They are wonderful setups. Koni yellows top out at 600 lbs on the spring rates. If you want to go with higher spring rates, then you would need to go with the Koni race shocks ($1350 for 4) which can handle 1000 lbs spring rates. If this car is a daily driver plus some track/autocross, Koni yellows would be the best setup with the springs rates that would work for both driving situations.
I sent my D2's to Chris and they dyno'ed almost same as the Koni race shocks. But daily driving these things with 650/700 lbs springs is hard on the body.
