I have a 88 Crx hf and it burns some oil. ( 2 quarters between changes) what high milage oil has the best anti burn off. It just gets old having to check my oil and adding oil. I am using valvoline high milage right now. I was thinking castrol?

i was never a fan of dumping money into oil trying to solve my oil burning problem...that was the case when my crx was stock with a d15b2...but i did once used motor flush and then used either honey motor or engine restore and it worked just fine. but i ended up swapping it out for another motor. so my 2cent would be either replace the rings, swap motor, or last choice used motor flush and then either honey motor or engine restore. could be purchased from your local auto part store.

I used restore four? or something like that, I really don't know how well it worked because I swapped out the engine about a month or less later... I saw a small if anything difference.

But if I were in your situation I'd definitely just use it anyways haha.

IMO Having had a few honda's that burn oil.I'd just buy some piston rings and valves seal and get that put in.If you can't afford it right away than that Honey thick stuff work's ok,Best of luck,Matt.

Lucas oil stabilizer has slowed down my oil consumption a noticeable amount. I think it's well worth the $12-$13.

I used 20w50 walmart brand oil with some 'no smoke' stuff. My Si was burning a quart of oil every 300 miles, it just cut down on the smoke and slowed it to 600-800 miles a quart. Finally had the cylinder head rebuilt, it had bad valve guides. Also re-ringed the motor. So far 2100 miles and not a drop of oil burnt.

I have heard horror stories about oil additives, and really heavy oil. I have another engine (1.5) it just won't be ready till next spring. So know one really prefers one oil over the other?

P.S. It's going to cost me 575$ to have a machine shop do my head (valve seats), rings, new bearings, new oil pump, and seal it back up. Sound like a fair price?

its a decent price, but id just keep adding oil till the other engine is ready to go in lol. i like lucas too. it does seem to help with cutting back on oil consumption, and actually quiets down the slight chatters of a neglected high mileage engine. anyways, its just a single cam (gonna have some haters of that statement lol)
