not much will be done to the car this week. just too damn busy. Had to paint the ice racer and spend the weekend with at the car show. All dented and glorious, but at least it was all one colour! And with the muffler broken off from the last race's impact it is boosting much quicker then before. gotta love the tiny restrictive muffler we put on it.
Anyways, what I did do was secure some sponsorship for the this from Federal Mogul. This is going to be very sweet as I was planning on doing some front end work this season anyways. It is not a huge sponsorship, but I didnt expect it to be. I will be getting new ball joints, plug wire set, spark plugs, oil pan gasket, axle seals, and a few other things right now. I have already done all the brakes and the rest of the front end is tight. I am pretty pumped. Just need to get a tire sponsor and I will be set!

Re: (biggee)
********SOAB!!!!!!********* All my typing and I somehow deleted it all!!!!!!!!! DAMMN!!!!!
here we go again.
I made it out to the shop today. I prepped and painted the front bumper and lip
I also mounted the new fenders, headlights, bumpers, etc. Starting to look better everyday!
I mounted my battery box behind the passenger seat, with still enough room for a passenger to sit and just in front of the cross bar on the roll bar. Since the floor os not straight I built a mounting plate which is leveled and bolted to the floor with the provided mounting bolts and then the battery box slides over those. Nice and secure! Since I dont want unsuspecting passengers to throw the seat back I will install some stopper bolts to prevent the seat from going back to far. As it sits the seat goes back just as far as the driver's seat in racing position.
Also since the passengers feet will hit my ECU I decided I didn't want it in the stock location anymore. It is a P28 so i can't put my shield back on the way I would like it. I decided to use the factory radio rear mount and custom make a front one and mount my ECU like the factory deck would be mounted. Secure and out of the way. I will post more pics of that when I finish the brackets.
I also started to do some more work on the hood, but I got tired of the noise and dust, so that will have to wait until later.

wow, an autocross car missing the front rebar/reinforcement....is it worth having a slightly lighter car so you can have an even less stiff front end and have a window for potential frame twisting?

ya I am picking up some paint stripper next weekend. This grinding stuff is overrated! hahaha
I am getting a roll bar installed, plus I have a strut tower brace and a lower tie bar. I doubt not having the bumper rebar is going to do anything. Ever see a JDM rebar? There is less then nothing there.

The bumper support isn't designed to be a structurally integral part of the front end.

You would probably get the minutest of benefits of structural integrity with the bumper support on, compared to losing what, 10 kilo?

Well stayed late after work and tinkered for a bit, no pics this time because I did not have my camera. Fixed my fuel line that I accidentally crushed with an air hammer (don't ask), stupid rusty fittings.
Anyways we have fuel injection repair kits at work. Since I didn't like the screw in style fittings that I have because of the rust issue we decided to make our own. I used the Honda rubber line from the pump and installed a GM style fitting on it. Then from the Honda steel line coming through the floor I put on the corresponding GM quick connect style fitting. Voila, all plastic high pressure fuel injection, with very common GM style quick disconnects. Easy, cheap and it works. No more rust!
Hopefully this weekend I can tackle the rest of my exhaust. For all the haters, I cut off the dual exhaust tonight. Wanna buy it?

Ya you don't want to take out he bumper rebar ona street car, that would not be cool at all.
I was out at the shop, but my camera batteries were dead I will try and make it out tomorrow and take some pictures so you can see what i am talking about.
Today I started making my exhaust. I got all my Ubends and mufflers, and tips. I got it all the way to the axle and stopped for the day. maybe tomorrow I will be able to get back out there and finish it!

Re: (biggee)
Holy long time since last update batman!
OK HERE WE GO....
So I finished my exhaust. It sounds, looks awesome. It also weighs WAAAAAY less then the old tank. I need to weld a bar or something across the hatch floor because it resonates wicked bad. I got my bar put in. Two bars forward, two back, a main hoop, harness bar, and a cross brace. All for only 350 bucks! I got another set of used 185/60R13 Advan AO48R tires from a spec race class in the states. Remember, I am keeping it cheap. After over a month of waiting my kill switch finally showed up. I have not installed it yet though. I ground the rest of the paint off the hood, well sort of. Anyways enough blab. PICTURES!
I Love my obnoxious dual tips!!!!
stripped and repainted my race wheels.

Re: Auto X Build ona budget (does anyone have 56k anymore?)
Wow, I guess I got so busy I forgot to add any sort of updates.
SO my car was classed in XP, so that was fun! I did pretty good in 2008. I had a couple FTDs, which just boosted my confidence. Sponsorship fell through for 2008 and we killed more tires. Also I ended up removing 10lbs of bolts from the car!!!!
ONTO winter off 2008. My friend and I decided to join forces and build one good car instead of two mediocre cars. We used the hatch because it was already caged.
We grabbed a B16A w/ LSD trans out of a written off crashed JDM glasstop CRX. We procrastinated until it was a week before we had committed to being at an ice race so we though we would get our *** in gear. Sooo we converted the car back to OBD0 tried to just drop the engine in because why wouldn't it fit in with CRX SIR brackets. Well had we read anything we would have realized that of course would not work. Soo we robbed the mounts from Donavon's swapped CRX and left his engine on 2X4s. The rear t mount was effd from the glasstops crash. So in -40C I went salvage yard hunting until I found a teg bracket, which we still had to modify a bit.
So now that the hard part was done we plug and played the engine harness and added what we needed. The car did not fire at all. Damnit. I did some reading and came to the conclusion that I should have done reading before I started swapping. With time running out and no correct harnesses quickly available I pretty much pulled the entire car and engine harnesses apart. I used two wiring diagrams and repinned everything from the engine to the ECU. Heaven forgive me if I ever lose my harness now! I also installed a lawn and garden tractor battery in the battery box and mounted everything up. I had to add axillary brake lights and a rear mounted fog lamp for ice racing. 22 hours later it was running great and legal for rubber to ice racing!
We showed up at the ice track and after the first heat my windows were fogging up badly even though the heat was cranked. Turns out over the summer Donavon had stolen the blower motor for another car we built!!! Hahahaha. I had to run the entire day with the windows down and no heat! I raced with snowmobile leather gloves on! With the LSD I was penalized and had to start at the back of the pack in every single heat. I still managed to make it to the front and even won one heat with 175/70R13 winter tires!!! After everyone left we mounted my set of bolted tires to the car and it was unbelievable. One ice going into corners at over 140km/h with huge drifts and tons of traction!
Onto summer now! We got some sponsorship from Speedtech Racing Development and they hooked us up with an Exedy Clutch/flywheel set up! We borrowed a set of 14" panasports and some Toyo RA1 tires. We were on fire. the car finished FTD 9 out of 14 events I believe this year. I won the Regina Regional Overall FTD! At the Canadian Autoslalom nations the car finished 2nd, to a Caterham driven by the guy who invented the Nationals in Canada like 45 years ago, in C mod and first in XP class. I also added a set of 6 22 Diode LED strobe lights to the car cause man I love flashing lights! I installed a new 5 point RCI harness and stepped up to a legal Snell2005 SA helmet, which is retarded hot in the summer! I painted the rollcage (poorly) orange.
We took the car out to the Oval track this year (1/3rd mile I think) for the fasted street car shootout, because technically our car is still Street Legal. With no suspension or alignment mods we broke the track record like 12 times that night. Tire temps and air pressure adjustments helped win the day. We smoked the Lamborghini's times as well!!! hahaha, in a rusty EF!!!!!
In December I purchased new rocker panels ( wheel to wheel ) and new quarters so the car will start to look much better. We got a windshield that we can actually see out of now as well. Windshield Wizard hooked us up with that.
Plans for this year are a set of non-production Edelbrock race cams with an upgraded 12000RPM valvetrain( company name escapes me) and a 70mm race throttle body. We were hoping to hook up with some Skunk2 products, but we will see what this stuff can do for us!
MORE PICTURES!!!
Drifty Drifty!
This is the only engine picture I have! I will update when I dig the car out of the snow!
The new pit bike! We have 2 of them, one is lowered and stretched!

Re: Auto X Build ona budget (does anyone have 56k anymore?)
Oh yeah and we have since returned the shitty mounts to the previous swapped CRX and installed a set of beautiful Hasport mounts. The quality difference was crazy! Good work boys!
Oh and for the good eyed people, we have two spoon styled mirrors now. I ended up just bolting in the JDM duckbill spoiler because of a second attempted theft!
The exhaust is a stock type R manifold with 2.5 straight back into a long bottle, which was too loud, so we also added a very short chambered bottle. Then to some mandrel bends and a beautiful polished obnoxious twin tip! No more cat either.

Sick build. it's nice to see some people who legitimately race, instead of calling themselves "street racers" because they slammed a Civic on 17s lol. Anyways, subscribed!
Looking forward to more updates!

I dont have many from this year.
2008 season
Blew up the trans, swapped in the pits, made my next run. from run/break to run was 45minutes.
This was the first year we Ice raced this car. We built a dedicated Ice race car a few years back.

like the rear bumper diffusers and the hood rising sun. Thats what i call weight reduction why dont you cut off the interior door metal you dont need like the heavy as **** side impact beam. Im thinking of doing that. Idk bout that dual exhaust either i dont see any way of that helping you make power. as for your suspension you say you have Energy suspension polyurethane all the way around? lower control arms to steering rack to trailing arms? those KYB AGX's are a good idea i have GR2's and they feel like there already going out, ive had em for bout 4 months now! lol Try getting some traction bars and a DA integra 23mm front sway bar i just put one of those on today and i felt a big difference. wish we had auto X here were i live thats my dream to race up against a AE86
