89 CRX died while driving... Fuel pump issue
Hello again everyone here I am a year later and with another problem with my 89 CRX with a 91 B18. While driving home the other night my crx stalled while driving. I coasted to the curb and called my company for a tow home. Got home and rolled it off the flatbed and got it to kick over on a rolling start but immediately died.
So I checked the obvious. Im getting good spark and it will run with starter fluid for a couple seconds. when I turn the key on I get the initial blink from the computer and can hear the main relay click. Im not hearing the fuel pump prime nor am I getting any fuel to the filter. I tested the power to the coupler behind the seats and heres where it got weird. with the coupler connected the line had no power but once I disconected it the wire leading to the coupler had power but would go dead as soon as I reconnected the coupler. My brother and mechanic friend both said dead pump so I went to autozone and got a new one. Dropped the tank and installed the new one. Now when I checked the wires Im getting power on both sides of the coupler this time but still the pump wont prime or engage. Now I stupidly installed the new pump first and after the fact checked the old one to a power source and the pump powers up. I even pulled out the main relay and checked the solders and while they look aged they still look good.
So now I have two working fuel pumps and a non working car. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Im going back out right now to drop the tank and check the wiring from the access behind the seats to the pump for ground and power.

Re: 89 CRX died while driving... Fuel pump issue
thanks for the response. I did a visual check on the fuel lines when I dropped the tank and they were all connected and looked good. Nothing leaking nor any signs or smell of leaking fuel anywhere. I climbed underneath and had my girl turn it to the on position and im not hearing it prime and no fuel to the filter. Got too dark for tonight to check the wiring for power to the connectors at the tank im doing that at first light since im missing work. My friends saying main relay. But would i still have power going to the pump?
