89 Civic DX gauge clusters
Which cluster works in the 88-89 Civic DX model? I've tried a few and none worked. I know the CRX cluster does not work. Does the 88-89 Civic SI cluster really work and can someone verify that. I got one but it doesn't work
I give up my car hates tach almost every tach installed except the Apexi SAFC has not worked

I have an 1988 dx, with a crx Si dash cluster, and it works fine. The shape of the cluster is what is different between the 88-89 and 90-91 clusters in a civic or crx. All you have to do is use the (acording to what years) matching cluster cover. also honda did not make an civic Si in 1988.

Every USDM cluster will swap into it... and work. The fitting issue comes in as far as the hoods over the clusters which vary from 88-89 and 90-91. Either EVERY cluster you've tried is broken, or something else is wrong with ur car.
What is NOT working - need more info.

exactly what i was going to say. The cluster bezel for 88-91 is shorter than the 90-91.. height wise.. So therefore.. grab yourself the NICER 90-91 and more viewable cluster, and get the 90-91 bezel. Correct me if i'm wrong, but there could be a chance that certain models have different connection pins that go into the Clusters????....
You could also use the 90-91 bezel and get yourself an integra cluster. I have myself this cluster, and i'm planning on re-wiring it when i get a chance.

I think every cluster I've tried is broken or they were from a CRX. My stock cluster works just fine just no tach

Re: 89 Civic DX gauge clusters (EF Two)
hey dude it does not matter if it is from a crx or a civic it will work. I did it myself. Check the wires going to your cluster, if the wire is cut that would make your tach work, then of corse your factory cluster will work, it does not have a tach on it. I have an 1988 HB and you could not get an Si in that year HB, but any cluster for 88-91 (civic or crx) with a tach will work in my car, there is something wrong with your car. If you can not fix this yourself then take it to someone who can. Have a nice day.

Re: 89 Civic DX gauge clusters (EF Two)
well who put in your Apexi SAFC? The wire that it gets a signal from to work the Tach on it, would be the one the makes your factory Tach work as well.

I did, the wire directly from the ecu and the blue wire behind the cluster both work. I don't have the SAFC anymore though

88-89 Civic/CRX (any model) clusters are interchangeable
90-91 Civic/CRX (any model) clusters are interchangeable
Trust me, I have an 89 and a 91, and I've swapped clusters in both. The plugs are different.

No
88-89 CIVIC cluster's are interchangable and 88-89 CRX cluster's are interchangable, but not b/t the CRX and Civic chassis in the 88-89 years.
In 90-91 the Civic AND CRX had a common cluster wiring scheme.
The misinformation in this thread is ungodly.

I've swapped numerous clusters around in all years ED/EF chassis cars, from DC2 LS and GS-R clusters, 96+ civic Ex clusters, 99-00 Si clusters, as well as a full digital Insight cluster.

Re: 89 Civic DX gauge clusters (Speed PHreak)
Thanks for the info. I knew there was a difference between the 88-89 Civic and CRX clusters. So I thought I would ask. I guess I've just been getting CRX clusters.
