1991 CRX Turbo B18 project/build thread

Re: 1991 CRX Turbo B18 project/build thread
No one makes giant single element wings so everything is custom if you want to get close to the allowable rules. I run a wing built by a sprint car wing builder out of Tulsa that is 7.2sqft. Don't know what the current price would be for a one off but probably somewhere around $500 to $600 for the element and end plates. As with anything, you would need to build custom mounts (https://imgur.com/gallery/y0iz9lQ).

I was looking at off the shelf options too, they range from $500-1000 but there are some out there specifically for the CRX. I also have the ability to draw, plasma cut, bend and weld anything I want from steel or aluminum at work, so that is an option. Would just rather not go through the hassle.

Exhaust is redone with a dump in front of the rear LCA, making room for the newly installed rear swaybar. Also put my 550lb springs back in. All ready for the next points event this sunday!

Thanks @TacoCat I'm gonna order some so I don't have to worry about rubbing and can lower it more. Are you able to actually cut metal out of the rear fenders for more clearance without causing any other issues?

I just did it to my AWD Civic but used weld on flares vs bolt on. I personally really like the look and the function is much better now.

They are tied into the inner wheel tub/inner quarter whatever you want to call it. If you cut the quarter panel you will need to spot weld the quarter and inner tub together to give it that same strength. It's actually not hard to do and you will get a ton more clearance to fit bigger or wider tires and still have a real nice low stance.

I just bought the Winglogic wing to potentially try out as a trunk mounted wing on the CRX. Main purpose was for my S2000. The wing bracket does not come welded and no holes drilled it so it will require some fab I decided to chassis mount my 9lives 55” diy kit. I utilized the OEM tie down mounts and some rear sway mounts.
Top is obviously supported from the wing. Bottom I took a tube, welded a nut inside the tube on both ends to secure the uprights to it then added the cables which absolutey help support

Got my fenders done, not sure how I feel about em yet. I need to lower the car slightly and fix my alignment from where I had it adjusted not to rub. I wish I didn't have to cut the flares short to fit but it's more function over form at this point. Unless anyone has ideas to make them look less out of place.

Things are definitely coming together with the car and getting more seat time. I got first in XB today by over 3 seconds, competition wasn't too bad but what surprised me most is I got 11th out of 83 cars overall in raw times, not counting the go karts. It rotated so much better with the rear swaybar and I am learning how to control it more at the limits. Very pleased with today.

Got first in XB two days in a row with different regions and got my cups lol. Had another good day today although 4 of my 6 runs saw some rain, so overall was only 13th out of 35. The afternoon group definitely had an advantage with a dry track.

Re: 1991 CRX Turbo B18 project/build thread
Yesterday I was 28th out of 70 overall in raw times. Took 3rd in XB class. I'm happy with it as there were just a lot of fast drivers and it was a faster course, I've improved over the last time we ran a course like this. I beat my buddy in his STS CRX by 0.7 seconds, he is kind of my benchmark as he is more skilled but lacks my HP.
Talked to the guy who always takes 1st place in XB when he shows up, and his car is not legal for XB. Should probably be running SSM. The other XB car I was only behind by 0.1 seconds, a turbo miata.

Got first in XB again, by a mere 0.094 seconds on my last run of the day! Had 7 drivers in the class and some decent competition. Overall I was 33rd out of 136 drivers. I never fully reached the limits of the car, I know it could go faster but I was mentally blocked from it. The aero was definitely helping with higher speed cornering.
Even had a couple other CRX's show up this time.

I just re-read this entire build thread, holy smokes did it take me back through some rough times. I had completely forgotten about half of the repairs, mods, and tribulations I've been through with the car over the years. Very happy that I've held onto it and kept it going, still always looking for ways to improve and enjoy the car.
Got some more pics from the event on Sunday, this one is my favorite yet.

Re: 1991 CRX Turbo B18 project/build thread
Had a fun weekend, two days of autocross, got to drive in the rain and also had a codriver. I ran XB and he did SMF. Took home a medal and a cup.
These were the last points events of the year, so I will be starting to tear the car down soon and prepare for next year. I'll be pulling out the spindles to put in extended wheel studs, getting ready for some wider wheels and tires. I'm still debating if I want to throw hoosiers on it for next year, mainly due to the cost and how much more wear and tear it will put on the chassis. If I do I know it will be fun, and my goal would be a top 3 raw or pax finish for next year.
