Actually, I don't think this is in violation of the rules. He already has both cars.
I would go with the hatch. There is less damage to it. A CF hood would fix that hood problem, new windshield is like $200. Or, new fender for the CRX $40 at a wrecker, $150 online for a pair. Rust repair could be any amount of money... too much for my tastes.
Build the hatch. Then, you will have more money to put into it.

My opinion is that if you find an good and clean CRX then do it but I don't think there are any clean CRX's out there anymore so go with the CIVIC it would last you longer.

Then again the HB is a 1991 and the CRX is a 1988....
....maybe the HB in that case, because parts are easier to come across. A lot of parts for the 88-91 chassis are broken down into 88-89 and 90-91, but for suspension a lot is 88 and 89-91.

If anyone is reading this i need helpppppppppppppp.... i got a d15y7 engine i swap the head for a vtec head from a d16 engine with the p28 ecu that i get from a 93 civic ex automatic (my car is a 92 civic dx sedan) the car is runnig good except for the code 19 that is showing, i look that up and its a code from some automatic transmision sensor or whatever but my car is manual and i heard that if the check engine light in a vtec motor is on the vtec will not work so my question if theres any way that i can fix it or i have to get another ecu from a manual car????

I'll follow this thread since I am also trying to decide between CRX or the bubble. But I agree with the other guy who said it's very hard to come by a clean 88 compared to the HB's.

I don't know how it is where you guys live but I see at least 100 EF Civics for every CRX I see and that's just counting hatches. I see a few EF Civic 4 doors every day.
Depending on what model the two cars are I would put the CRX's engine in the Civic and DD that while I swapped the CRX. I think the question of 88 CRX vs 91 Civic as a platform is almost funny. You have the lightest CRX vs the heaviest Civic hatch... For EFs older is better.
Parts availability? Are you guys serious? There are one or two things that are different from the factory (like the rear suspension) but if you replace the rear LCA/Struts you suddenly have the same rear suspension as everything else... Theres really no parts availability differences between the years whatsoever unless you mean like the flat 88 Si sticker is discontinued but the fat 89-91 Si sticker is readily available... I have 2 88 CRXs and have rebuilt one of them from the ground up... I know...
The bottom line of course is decide what YOU want to do... then do it... don't wait for the internet to make your decisions for you.
