Is it worth $4300
Alright so I'm new to the honda tech forum but I already need your guys opinon. I am currently looking at a 1989 Honda CRX Si that has around 270xxxkm on the body and engine has been swapped with a 120xxxkm b18a1 integra engine. Body conditon:
- full car painted 5-6 years ago "NSX RED" (doesnt really matter to me, supaaaa shiny though and looks good)
-small dime sized paint chip on the hood (owner has color matched paint, along with primer and clearcoat)
-slight scuffing to FR of bumper and small scratch on rear bumper.
-small dent by sunroof
-all windshield rubber inserts need to be replaced
On to the important stuff, heres the list
-120xxx b18a1, hasport mounts.
-new clutch, b&m short shift, cv axels, wheel bearings
-aem intake, dc sport header, stainless exhaust.
-new starter, alt, ignition switch, cap/rotor, plugs/wires, master cyclinder.... etc
-lowered on h&r springs, agx kyb shocks, skunk2 fr camber kit, blackwork r camber kit, urethane bushings, integra sways, rear upper lower strut bar.
-jvc, bluetooth deck, mic, speaks, sub.
-compu-star 2way paging alarm.
-Integra brake swap, calipers, rotors, prop valve, hawk hps pads.
I have seen receipts for all of the things done and most are high priced items, not sure if that makes a huge difference on the price. Anyway, he is pretty set on 4300-4400 and I honestly don't know if it would be worth it or not. never had a somewhat "sporty" car and really think a crx would be fun! i need help... is it worth the amount hes asking?

Re: Is it worth $4300
Did you test drive it yet? Does it drive good? Any Check Engines lights/code? And honestly I think the price is a little high but it really depends on what you want. If you really like this car and want it then pay the price. It really is up to you and how badly you want the car. It took me two years of searching the forums and craigslist for a stock crx si and finally one popped up and was in awesome condition for an awesome price. I honestly prob would have paid another thousand over what I paid for it because I wanted that car that bad lol. So it really just depends on you. You just need to make sure the engine runs good all the other things on the car such as body dents are not a big deal.

Re: Is it worth $4300
Seems really high.
Yeah, it look clean and probably is, BUT you can get something 10 years newer (maybe not as clean, but probably with turbo and AWD) for the same price.

Car drives nice, went for a test drive yesterday and everything seemed fine to me. No CEL codes, no lights on anything like that. Yeah I think the price is a bit high but the guy is giving me very little negotiation room. From what I can tell everything has been properly done, the guy knew what he was doing and knows his Honda's. It's really just eating me up inside wether I should jump on it or not. Not too sure what kind of other cars I would really enjoy.

Car looks good. It's worth whatever you're willing to spend. At the end of the day, you will be the one driving it and owning it, so its all on you.
How's the underbody? How's the interior? How are the seals around the windows and doors and such?

Re: Is it worth $4300
I'd pay up to $4k for that, especially if the interior condition is as good as the exterior.
Mods are tasteful; nothing that I'd really care to undo.
That being said, mods only stand a chance of adding value if they're worth more than what they're replacing (ex.: $200 mod != +$200 total car value).

Underbody appears fine, nothing bad that stands out. Seller's pride in the car really shows and you can tell he cared for the car. Interior is pretty clean too, crack on the climate control panel (which I've heard is common with these cars.) Window seals are good. You make a good point, at the end of the day it's all about who's driving it and who owns it.

Re: Is it worth $4300
I like the car. I love CRX's. There aren't as many clean ones around anymore. I live in CA and I look at every EF I see. Most (over 90%) have body damage and horrible paint. This car looks clean. The swap is very clean. If the interior is nice....I'd buy it.
But if you just want a Honda, there are other (newer) civics with similar mods for that price. But if you're a fan of CRX's, the pictures say this is a decent one (I'd remove the murdered out tail light covers though)

Re: Is it worth $4300
Is it atleast bard? From what ive learned is that a swap doesnt make the cars value any higher, but can make it more desireable. But that crx is super clean, if 4k is nothing to you then go for it, like others have posted. Personally in that price range id look for a clean 240 or ae86 as you can have way more fun than just going straight, but thats a completely different topic lol.

Re: Is it worth $4300
Doesn't seem worth $4k+ to me. Is the paint even a base/clear job? Looks like a single stage to me, but hard to tell from the pictures. If it's base/clear it certainly doesn't look like the type of quality and gloss one would expect from a base/clear. Plus it looks really cheap, and is very undesirable IMO, when people paint right over the black trim/moldings.
Plus, the windshield needs new moldings, and the paint has chips, etc?
I would only pay $4k if that paint work is confirmed high quality AND the interior is in very good shape. No mention of AC so I assume it does not have AC. Or let me guess, the AC "just" needs a recharge?
The fact that the seller has receipts for high priced items doesn't mean he should feel like he should get his money back on those simply because he spent X amount of money on them. Anytime you mod a car you're pretty much throwing your money down the drain as far as resale value and should never ever expect to get that same amount of money back out of it. That's car modding 101 and he should know it.
If it were me, I'd much rather have a minty unmolested CRX for that price. A B18A isn't really the epitome of desirable, and assuming that paint job isn't a really high quality job, then there's not much to justify a high price.
Having said all that, I can't blame the seller for his price. It sucks dumping money into your car and just getting killed on the sale price. That's why I will almost certainly never attempt to sell mine. Would be out so much time and a lot of money.

Re: Is it worth $4300
AC is normally deleted on a B-series swap. This car is no exception - all the AC lines are gone so it's reasonable to assume that the entire AC has been removed (or never existed in the car in the first place)

I wouldn't pay more than 2800$. Just a basic modded crx with a cheap looking paint job. This guy just thinks he can get all his money back. Doesn't work like that.

Re: Is it worth $4300
I truly think it is too difficult to judge the quality of the paint from a few pictures. It must be a two stage because he has matching paint and clear coat. Is it a $8k paint job? No. The engine bay wasn't sprayed so I'm guessing it was just a re-spray. How bad? I truly feel that's too tough to judge with what has been shown and said.
I'd love a minty stock CRX Si too. But, in my opinion, that's a difficult find.
The swap may be mild and done to death but it is definitely clean. I've seen quite a few nasty rats' nest EF swap before. This one is done right.
Maybe the jams look like crap. Maybe the interior is shot. If so, I'd stay away. Cost of interior parts add up quick. If things check out in person....would I pay $4300? No. I'd lower it 5-8% and show him the cash.

I would do it. Looks like a lot of clean tasteful mods. Only thing I might add would be a Innovative traction bar.
Other than that appears to have a good bit of labor into it as well.
What kind of seats does it have? Del Sol red stripe?

The problem with insurance companies, when your the victim, is people "expect to get screwed". So instead of going head to head with the insurance company they let the insurance company dictate the terms.
If your in an accident and your not at fault, don't let the insurance company dictate what your car is worth. You can and will win that battle if you push it hard enough (as long as you aren't claiming an outrageous value).

Do you mind explaining to me where the traction bar goes and what it does exactly? I get the whole traction part but not sure how it works. And yes clean Del Sol seats w/ the red stripe. And yes I'm getting it Monday ))

Wassup HT, really need your help on this one. I'm leaning towards selling my 89 civic si that I've owned since 2011. Clean title, 167k miles on stock d16a6, hasn't given me a problem since I've owned it. Have driven to Palm Springs, Santa Clarita, Calabasas for work without a hitch. With this new job i got, i don't really have the time to really work on the car.
Cons:
- paint is cracking
- fender and hood need work, nothing serious
- passenger door needs to be aligned
- crossmember needs replacement is bent after hitting a raised section of uneven asphalt
- miniscule oil leak around distributor
- possibly needs new rear mount
- leaks from sunroof and rear cargo area
Also will include:
- Neuspeed Front Strut Bar
- EX sedan front knuckles/10.3 in rotors
- All 4 mudguards repainted with SEM paint
-Ground Control Sleeves w/ Tokico Illumina Shocks
- Sparco NS2 wheels 15x6.5 4x100/4x114 12.5 lbs each wheel
- Oem front LCA with Pic hard rubber bushings
- 2 Koyo front wheel bearings, 2 Moog front lower balljoints, 2 Sankei 555 outer tie rods, front lower torque mount, and Moog front sway bar endlinks. All to overhaul the front suspension.
I think the car with the sparco wheels and ground control/ tokico illumina are probably worth $2000 along with another $500 woth of parts. Im located in Southern California, and please chime in if my price point is a ridiculous. You can check my profile to look at my build thread.
