I think anyone coming on here and bashing this guys build is ridiculous... but i'm gonna eat my popcorn and read this rant about what he thinks is right.

chrysler kid is clearly a Civic HX aficionado and became overly emotional about the OP modifying a rare Civic. I think he's said his piece now, and will move on to avoid taking this thread as a personal affront to his value system.

Thank you for your patience and not turning it into a flame post, again I was extremely hard on you about this because the hx is in my opinion one of the most effecient vehcles honda has ever made.
Good luck on your build. I do like that you found a clean turbo kit that retains the a/c system and that you raised the vehicle from being slammed out. Please keep in mind the hx has a unique head, unique gearing in the transmissiom, and a unique ecu. I encourage you to keep those parts as they are rare and can eventually be valuable
The front lip I'm 50/50 on. With the sir lip I would also paint the side skirts silver and the door moulding silver. Otherwise the front bumper looks out of place on the black molding. I tend to like the black on silver theme and the cheap ebay lips in my opinion help balance the front with the black trim on the side
Thank you for your patience

Thanks for the support, guys.
I didn't want to veer the focus of the thread to be anything other than the car.
The remote start/alarm system is a DEI Viper product with the upgraded AUTOSTART rubber coated remote since I'm fairly rough on my keys (always picking them up with dirty hands and leaving them places I forget).

I use my remote start every single day in Chicago weather.
It's even nice in the summer because I can start the car and have my A/C set and be nice and cool by the time I get in it.
If you do decide to get one I can help you out with any questions you might have on the install portion.

Back to me ruining my car!
So I started to slowly install all the parts I had bought to ready the car for fun turbo things to happen in the near future.
I noticed that my clutch master was leaking on the inside of the firewall, so I ordered it and swapped it out along with the braided stainless steel line and fittings.
Drove great for two days, until suddenly on my way to work in the morning my clutch felt really weird.
I was at a light taking a left turn onto a main road, when I felt a crunch on the pedal.
Went into gear, but when I went to shift into second the pedal went all the way to the floor and stayed there.
Luckily I was able to pull into a nearby McDonalds and found a parking spot without much trouble.
I popped my hood, checked my clutch fluid reservoir, and it had all turned into super thick gel. GREAT.
Called backup to get me to work on time, and left the car there for the time being. Talked to a local tow company that gives us deals because we're a neighboring shop, and had my car towed in.
Sucked all the fluid out and flushed the lines, filled it back up, but it wouldn't bleed.
Took off my TWO DAY OLD master, and found this:
Awesome.
Got the part guaranteed out, but had to eat the tow bill which really sucked.
Goes to show that you should always buy OEM parts (I usually do, but the OEM clutch masters have leaked on EVERY SINGLE CIVIC that I've ever owned).

After all that mess was taken care of, I started getting into the valvetrain.
Decided I would upgrade the springs and retainers without taking the head off as my compression was perfect across the board.
Bought myself some industrial grade rope, and got to work the old school way.
The idea is to take off the spark plus, feed rope into the cylinder, turn the engine over until it "locks" and that way the valves are held up when the springs are taken off.
Took my driver side wheel to get to my crank pulley and found this...good thing all my wheel well liners are still in place...
This is a pretty terrible picture (remember, potato!) but I was surprised with how clean everything was under there with the car having over 145k miles on it.
All torn up and ready for the upgrades
Rope in, valves held up
New Supertech seals in place
All the new valvetrain in place and looking pretty
Rockers cleaned up and back in place
And I got these little things to clean up the look of the bay a bit.
They'll look a lot nicer once my valve cover is powder coated.
And last but not least, a picture of her getting back together with the shop Evo (aka lift queen) in the background

For the record, I don't think anyone wants to polish a turd. Thats disgusting...
Nice work btw on the upgrades. Keep em coming.

Keep up the good work man, and don't worry about anyone's negative comments, last time I checked you paid for your car and can do whatever you want to it. Cant wait to see it all done with the turbo setup on it.

Re: You Can't Polish a Turd (98 Civic HX build thread)
I'm currently prepping a Datsun 280 for some SCCA events.
My car against those is a pretty big turd.
I don't even know how you knew that was a thing...(googled it)
Hell, I couldn't even get $2,000 for my full K20A2 swap.
Thanks man! Hopefully the turbo setup will be on sooner than later. Would really like to have it on and dialed in by the time our shop does the track event at Madison Speedway which is July 12th.

The motor and tranny are only worth what the market wants and unfortunately civic parts are hard to sell because the people who own them only drive them as basic transportation.
A coworker has a pretty clean 98 ex and doesn't know when the timing belt was changed last and doesn't care. The $650 it would cost him at a shop is what he figures is half of the cars value, so again most civics are headed to the dumpster in the sky because their resale value is next to nothing these days
All it takes is a good surge in gas prices and the civic market will get hot again.
Best of luck

They do make a difference, but it isn't huge.
I'm planning on upgrading my sound system all around on this thing, so it isn't a huge deal to me.

I got that mileage without even trying out of my last Y7 and I could really care less about the Y5 and it's lean burn.
It's a bore to drive as is and what I want in a car is something economical and entertaining.
Let me guess, now you're gonna ask why I even got an HX then instead of an EX or something else?
Because I got a great deal on this on it's a decently clean car, something rare in the area I live in.
Yes, the wheels are green. Big deal. The main reason I got them (besides the great price point) is for the tires. They have matching Falken 912's on them in good condition unlike all the other sets of wheels nearby that have mismatched or no name tires.
I don't see a fart can or stickers on my car, hell, notice that I took off the banner and stickers that the car had on it when I originally bought it.
I lifted it because I didn't like how low it was when I got it.
And I replaced the entire exhaust system because it was leaking and rusted throughout.
I assure you that there's a method to my madness, and that every little thing that goes into the car is premeditated.
If you don't agree with what I'm doing to my car, that's too bad.
I'm doing what I want to do with it to suit my wants/needs.
