Would a deadener bother you?
There's a black patch that's sticking on the rear quarter panel. Body shops couldn't tell me if the car's been hit or not. For some reason that patch is bothering me so much. I like to know does anybody have that on their car? Is it ok to remove them? If so, what do you use and how do you remove them?

Stupid me took off the panels and don't know how to put them back on. Many times I been thinking about selling her, but always end up riding her. The car is straight everywhere. I'm tempting to peel them off, but don't have the knowledge to do so. I was looking at the "build thread" and them guys are really inspiring me to keep my car. Some of the cars there were really out of shape. I got a lot of respect for them. I wished I have the skills like them.

I did some research and found out that dry ice are the way to go. What do you use to hold dry ice onto the deadender that are stuck on the rear quarter panel?

Trying to remove that stuff is going to to more damage than good, only to save a little weight... Like others said I wouldn't worry about it, if you take your carpet out that whole floor is covered in it

you talking about dynamat? I removed about 50 pounds of that crap out of my girlfriends car, it's good if you're going for sound dampening otherwise rip it out and save some weight

I know it's weird. It's right behind the speaker brackets on the passenger side. First thing came to mind when I first saw it was, "this car been hit."

Not trying to save weight on car. And it's not on the floor of car. I don't want to take this car in the wrong direction. Panels are not even in place the right way. And now I'm going to mess with the body panel?

I don't think it's dynamat. I'm really tempted to scrape it out and see what's behind those black patch. Damn I wish I can upload a picture.

Did you ever took it off? I thought my car was the only one that has it. I feel a little better now. Did you find out what it was?

Re: Would a deadener bother you?
Is your car a hatch?
Is it on the inside of the quater pannle? my guess would be it's simply sound deading.
If it is on both sides it kind of makes sence.

Leave it alone, it's a trap
But seriously, he's right. If you take it off, it'll be like opening Pandora's box probably.

Damn dude it does not mean your car has been hit. That sound deadening is all over the car, its not going to hurt anything.

Re: Would a deadener bother you?
I do bodywork and the way I get it off is heat it with a heat gun and just scrape it off but if you get it to hot it will get all gooey and be a pain in the ***. It sounds to me like its just a factory sound deadener pad but we also have some that we use at the shop to replace the stuff we take off. Unfortunately some people do use them to cover up some spots were they beat the panel out but you wont know until you take it off.

Re: Would a deadener bother you?
Easiest way to check for filler is to use a small magnet and go along the body line
most if not all the Honda's I have owned have had this stuff in the rear, mostly over the wheel wells, it's just sound dampening material used from factory
the dry ice method works but you're still going to be sitting there for hours freezing and crumbling that stuff off
