Icon2 Would a bad speed sensor cause a car to randomly stall?

My sisters car stalls randomly and wont want to start at times and I was thinking it might be the speed sensor since it goes to the ecu.
I was thinking maybe the ecu makes adjustments to the fuel/air ratio at different speeds and maybe its running rich since her speed sensor is bad...

Does anyone know if the speed sensor could cause this or does anyone have any ideas?

I doubt it... My speed sensor wasn't working for awhile and the only problem I was running into was my speedo just read 0 all the time.

I would check the fuel pump the can over heat when the start to go bad and intermediately pump fuel causing a stall and hard to start till it cools down, it thats the problem it will only get worse

Yea originally I thought it may be the fuel pump going bad or the main relay....
I told her to make sure the check engine light goes on,you hear a click, and then it goes off and she says it does.
I guess we'll have to install a fuel pressure gauge and see if that turns out to be the problem.

And yes she has a cel that comes on after a few minutes of driving.I checked the code and its for the speed sensor.

Also its a 94 civic with a D16Z6 and auto tranny.

try this:

step 1: get in car, doors closed, windows up, radio off

step 2: turn key to "on" but do not try to start

step 3: Listen for a click, then a humming noise from the rear, then another click

if you DO NOT HEAR THAT, then your main relay is not working and not priming fuel pump

the main relay can be resoldered and fixed, or i can get you one if it is bad and ship it to you for 20 bucks.

lemme know how the test goes

i know you just said she hears that, but i want you to do it and not go on what she says.

Well from what I've seen the main relay does that but I'm never around when it doesn't want to start and when I do go to take a look at it,it starts and runs perfect.

I'll try to re-solder the pins and see if that helps I guess

the reason i say you should look at it:

you told her waht to look and listen for, but she is probably only hearing the key click and the light turn on and off.

you have to hear the humming noise too (because the light will still turn on and off)

main relay fix ^^^

i personally dont have a tool to remove solder, so i just melt down the old solder and add a little new to it. it always works.

i just did it to a 93 accord and it works great now

also, if you arent available to hear the relay yourself, then at least take apart the main relay and look at the solder joints to see if it shows signs like in the pictures in that link

Ok I'll tell her to listen for the humming if I'm not there when it doesn't want to start...good idea.

Thanks for the main relay repair page,I was just gonna go look for that lol.
I'll let you know what happens.

OK i'm having similar problems now with my 92 accord and I thought it might be the main relay, but after reading more I think it might be a distributor problem.

My car is hard to start cold and just recently started stalling after driving for a while I let it sit for 10-15 started it again and it only drove for a couple of minutes before it stalled again. When it stalls it doesn't stutter like a gas problem I still the RPMs just goto zero and the car slowly dies. Like I said after reading it doesnt really seem like a main relay but i'm not sure it someone could help me out I would be super happy this is my only car at the moment.
