if $1,000 is all you've got to commit you should buy a paintball gun.
You'll have a lot more fun than what $1,000 will do to your civic.
Getting a swap, suspension, decent seats, wheels, good tires, is going to cost you $4,000-10,000 depending on the quality and reliability and performance you'd like out of your car.

you can drop $1k+ on maintenance parts just getting the car back to like-new condition. and by like-new i mean functions like new, still looks like-old.
I/H/E and some sporty wheels/tires will make it a fun commuter (if all the maintenance is already in order), but not something to be considered "fast." if that's all you're looking for... do it.

Get a 60 inch from best buy since you got a grand. 1000$ into a d15 will not put a smile on your face like that 60 inch will lol.
