Re: basic stuff
Well...If you are wanting to just put money in the motor...then I would just save to either turbo the sohc or get a B series (dohc)
Assuming you have a d15b7 in your car...I def would not turbo. So just save you money and go with an easy swap...like a b series...I had a coupe with a b16 with a few bolt ons and a clutch and I had alot of fun with it.
good luck!

Re: basic stuff
unfortunately the d series isnt that great and you probably have the d15b7 which is 102hp..decide what you want to do first then plan and start spending the b16 and b18 are both good motors and if you want to go with something bigger look at the h22 get a good platform and then start throwing cash at it

Thread titles MUST be subject specific so that members browsing topics can easily understand the tech problem without reading the post -- title edited.

I have a 96 civic dx hatch with a d16y7 engine and i cant stand how slow she is. How much would a reasonable motor cost to install and of course buy? She's on 15" tires if that matters and im new to this but i hear i could buy an exhaust and intake system that would increase hp what are your suggestions of types??

So my engine is pretty much useless to do any mods on? looks like I see a future swap.
unless there are other recommendations.

well one thing you could do keeping your origional motor would be to do a head swap and then you could go with the few bolts ons and get a decent hp gain..it wouldnt compare to a full swap but you wouldnt spend so with a different head eg.y8

as in a d15 with a y8 head from a d16 so your replacing the top half of your motor ie cams intake manifold distributor timing belt ecu unless you figure out a way of avoiding the obd issue this thread might help https://honda-tech.com/forums/tech-misc-15/y8-head-intake-mani-d15-few-issues-left-timing-distributor-belt-head-gasket-obd-problems-491814/

plus from that you block is ok too boost which is an option later on, you stock internals wont handle boost but on the y8 it takes the beating better

Exactly. Swap the engine of boost it. In the meantime upgrade the rest of the components on your car.

if $1,000 is all you've got to commit you should buy a paintball gun.
You'll have a lot more fun than what $1,000 will do to your civic.
Getting a swap, suspension, decent seats, wheels, good tires, is going to cost you $4,000-10,000 depending on the quality and reliability and performance you'd like out of your car.
