I think it's more than coincidence that the guys in my high school that were "the cool guy with the Camaro/Mustang" are either dead or in jail for DUI or other various felonies.

I was the guy with "the red Civic with blacked out windows and the hardest hitting stereo in school."

Yeah I liked the boom boom before I liked the vroom vroom, but when you're 16, and it's 1995 before the import "scene" exploded here in GA that was the **** you did to cars.

do what i did/still doing.. buy a civic/crx/sol/ what ever kinda honda you like from someone who took car of it IE elder people.i bought my 94 del sol for 1200$ had 104XXX on it.. stock d15b7.. motor ran good.. i wouldent.. and didnt think twice about taking road trips.. and it took around 25$ to fill up (at the time gas was like 225ish) and got great gas milage as long as i didnt drive with lead foot the whole time..

the choice is yours kid.. but your 16. and have no job.. parents are buying the car. maybe you should think about buying a STOCK honda from a elder couple. but be warned. insurance WILL rape you once you get that honda.. hell i paid 147 with no tickets on my del sol.. cursed 2 seater coupes!!

and i do find it funny that when i look at all the "popular" kids and "jocks" that i went to school with.. who had camaros vettes.. and all them.. ya they do have about 2-3 DUIs.. or sitting in jail now.

have fun.. and remeber the choice is yours in the end.. Ht has alot of good information if you get a honda.. and if you buy a modded one.. ill give you a GREAT link that youll be needing and using alot

What kinda motor is this? GSR?
Also what kinda mpgs do u think it would get and how reliable would it be?

I know these are stupid questions but im only 16 with no job so i need a car thats reliable and gets good gas mileage.

Also after all this **** on the car was expletiveed wit do u still think the airbag works? Nother gay question but the parents dont want me havin a car witout one.
If you're only 16 and live on the east coast, that car will work just fine. The paint and lip and wheels arent .....well nevermind. They'll work on the east coast.

I wouldn't buy it. The engine was replaced and OPENED UP by someone you dont know and shouldn't trust. He may not have known what the hell he was doing.

If his original motor "spit out a rod", he may have beat the crap out of the B16A as well. Plus...where did he get the B16A? How well was it put together? Are emissions systems intact? Will it pass inspection?

Just buy a STOCK or close to stock 99-00 Si or 94-01 GSR/ITR if you're looking for an exciting car with good gas mileage. If you want the "name" status of a lexus, without the boring status of a lexus es300, buy one of the "acura" branded cars.

Buy a nicely used stock one. You'd be surprised at how much nicer these cars are when some ricer hasn't owned them.

I dont get why the insurance would be much higher. My EM1 is like $53 per month and my S2000 is like $50-60 per month. Fully covered. and look at this!!!!!

lol none on my record currently. There are actually 22 total now. I fought a lot of them...it's surprising how many B.S. tickets a guy can get.

I'm insured with allstate under a family plan. I'm assuming the OP will be insured under a family plan as well.

BTW, I was popular in highschool. I had an S13. It was a total fluke. I didn't know much if at all about cars. I didn't even know what "drifting" was. I think I got into drifting RIGHT before it became cool in the U.S. Then got bored with the scene RIGHT after it got bastardized. Timing is my forte, apparently.

hes lying about the motor, which is obvious. Imagine how many other things he lied about that arent so obvious-

your parents already bought you a halfways "decent" car. it runs, it gets you from point A to point B, at your age what more do you need? would you rather have my first vehical?? lets see it was a 1972 Ford F-100 pickup. faded red and white, with rust and a box full of garbage. it woudl burn through around a quart every other day. be a cloud of blue smoke behind it as i drove. now are you really that ungrateful? are you really as much of a spoiled brat as you come off to be? i work to pay for every vehical i have ever owned. my honda is the first one that is newer then 1985. why dont you just keep the car that was given to you. stop whinning that you might not be the coolest kid in school, grow up, let your nuts drop, and get a job you hippy!

Looks okay...But I always feel edgy about purchasing a modified vehicle.

Only reason is because I don't trust other people's work. Who knows what else the seller has done to the car.

Just be aware of what you're about to get yourself into.

Go ahead and buy it. Just don't come here crying when it's stolen. Also, my cheapo 240SX is RWD. Your ES300 has no redeeming qualities.

Yes, I'm not a fan of drifting. Yes, I hate people that overpay to get parts that were originally sold in Japan. I do NOT hate people that pay REASONABLE prices for EQUIVILANT parts in America. I DO like Hondas, I actually plan on selling my 240SX and buying/building a H23/eg hatch combo. I'm still sort of confused as to why my sig is in a thread that is concerned about a car YOU'RE buying, not ME.

I want to know what kind of no-game ugliness some of you guys possess to need a car to get/keep girls.

To the OP: If you're worried about gas, get a 92-95 VX or 96+ HX. 50MPG's!!!

Exactly, I've been with the same girl for 1.5 years this month. She hates my 240, says it's loud, annoying, has a shitty stereo, lacks carpet, etc. etc. etc. I think she actually loves me for me.

The only way for a 4 banger civic to reach 5-700hp is with a turbo. Obviously a big turbo, at that.

So what are your options, A) You can shift before your turbo even remotely begins to start spooling, or B) You can just leave the wastegate all the way open until you want to race - in which case you wouldn't be making 5-700hp.

Summarized: No. You're talking about "a ricer's wet dream" - "I got ownage gas mileage and 500hp" - Yes, you do, but by the time you're hitting 5-700hp you're consuming twice the gas an LS1 would. I fail to see the point.

I like Hondas, I really do, but in all honesty, girls don't care about them as being "nice looking at all." They rather have their guy driving a corvette or Mustang GT over a civic or integra, any day. This applies to MOST girls (not all) that care about what kind of car their guy drives. I hate the Mustang GT, but in all honesty it has a higher sex appeal than a '92 DX.

Keep the ES300.

I'll skip the part about where the Lexi are pimp.

Your insurance won't change - if anything it'll go up because due to the fact of more idiot ricers buying Si's and doing landscaping or tree removal with them (or attempting said tree removal) plus the fact that they have like, the highest thievery rate out of any car in the U.S. - Say "hi" to high insurance premiums!

Then on top of that you pay a rip off price ($7500 is a lot for that car) for a CTR that feels...exactly like the B16A that comes stock - unless you pin it to the redline.

So you'll pay $7500 for A) Higher insurance, B) Due to the short transmission gearing, unless your trip to work is all NOT HIGHWAY, your gas mileage won't improve drastically, C) It'll feel like every other B16A/B - which is much like a Z6 before 4000 RPM.

So let me get this straight:
You want to know if you think you should pay that rather high price for a most likely higher insurance premium on a car that barely gets better gas mileage than the last and feels like a stock '92 Si if you're not beating the **** out of it like a $2 crackwhore so you can lose more sleep over worrying about people jacking your car and degrade your social class by about 4 or 5 solid rankings?

No.

What do I mean by social class?

When you tell people you drive a Honda, they think you need to out of necessity because obviously you can't afford a better car. When you tell somebody you drive a "souped up" honda or "modded honda" - they think you're a pathetic ricer. Though when you tell somebody you drive a Lexus, champaign falls from the heavens, velvet curtains part, and most importantly, you'll be taking that cute girl home tonight WITHOUT the alcohol.

Top gear: Season 5, ep 6 - said it best:

Hammond: So can we just get this straight then - the Honda Civic Type R is faster...
Jermey: Oh yes..
Hammond: right, and significantly cheaper..
Jermey: oh - much cheaper
Hammond: right, and you're still saying that the golf (GTI MKV) is the best, right?
Jermey: Yes, because you see, if you buy a Honda...you end up...with a Honda.
*crowd laughs*
Jermey: You buy a volkswagen, you don't. Honestly everything into consideration - not just performance, but everything, this car (pointing to GTI) is a sensation.
Buying a car for status is about the dumbest, most retarded thing that I can possibly think of. Even if you win, you still loose. What you attract the crowds with, you have to keep them with.

If you're using a car to get a social status, you need to start crackin open some books.

I can drive the same POS 94 civic i have for the rest of my life and even if I don't wash it, it won't change my social status a single bit, because I don't associate with people that judge people based off of their material possessions.

I'm so glad that I don't have to deal with this forum anymore. This is some of the worst garbage I've read.

you REALLy shouldnt be making extremely long post calling someones BS when you have NO idea what you are talking about.

wastegates are vacuum operated. at low load the engine makes more vacuum, holding the wastegate open. creating NO boost. as load increases vacuum decreases and the wastegate begins to close allowing boost to build.

BOOST HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SHIFT POINTS OR RPM.

you can cruise at redline and as long as you have a steady throttle position you will be in vacuum not boost getting STOCKISH MPG.

i've seen 400-500whp civics on PUMP gas pushing 20+psi get 30+ mpg. care to argue still???

For you "build one, don't buy one" I agree for the most part, but how many 16 year olds have the time, skill, and extra funds to build a car.

I've built plenty of cars, but I also just purchased an already built car from a repuable guy (@ries) here on H-T, sight unseen, never driven, from 2000+miles away, and I have zero regrets, and I paid thousands less than I'd have had to spend to build the car.

In other words if you can't build one right now, you can buy a nice one, but you really need to do a lot of research.

I mean people like myslf who build **** right eventually do sell, so if nobody bought "done" cars they'd never sell!
