Default what is the better ecu P61 or P28?? can anyone tell if my ecu is socketed??

Hey i have a 1994 civic si hatch, it had a obd1 1994 stock p28,

I bought a 1994 gsr swap which is waiting to be put in the car. The guy never gave me a ecu so he said to give him my p28 and he would chip it for me, when he returned it this is the ecu i recieved from him

the part number label says P61 on it so i am assuming its a p61 but you never know
he told me to run this computer and if it gave me problems he would give me another one. Is this OBD1, is it a good computer?? Will I have to wire the knock sensor now, because i originally planned using a p28????

It seems like its the spoon program and vtec is set at 4400 rpms, is this good for me since i have the skunk2 manifold/ jdm dc 4-1 header/ 2.5 exhuast??????

Also can anyone tell if my computer is socketed. Eventually i want to go uberdata. It would be sweet if i didnt have to do anymore soldering, so can i just buy a skeni programmed chip, pluck this spoon chip out with some tweezers and then pop the kenji in??? Is that even how it works ???????

SO should i keep this computer or tell him to give me an obd1 chipped p28 ?????????????

The capacitors are only filters and not needed. That P61 IS socketed. Do you have any idea what that ECU is?

P61 is a 92-93 GSR ECU. What makes it special is that only 1,500 of them were ever made. They are US specific as well. Rare as heck. I have on myself that I will be selling shortly. Its just too bad that whomever chipped yours didn't socket the chip. That sucks. Other then that, you got one hell of a trade there.

No, I said it was chipped... Not socketed. Same thing except adding the socket allows for quick swapping of chips. Not really a HUGE issue.

That ECU is rare as hell... I sold mine out of my old 92 GSR for allmost $300!!!
Chances are all ur "chip" does is change your redline from 8k and ur crossover from 5,700 - and maybe gets rid of the fuel cut-off and knock sensor - that ECU is already obd1 DOHC ready... should work well for your swap.

Dude. Listen up. You got one hell of a deal. That ECU supports the knock sensor, the P28 cannot support knock. That Ecu is rare as hell and worth more. Its going to work just fine. Keep it. Be thankfull. It will work fine for uberdata, but you will need to remove the "chip" thats in there now and socket that puppy.

If the knock sensor has been bypassed you won't have to worry about it at all. Just call him up and find out - or just put it in and you'll know for sure.

How exactly is someone going to know by "putting it in" if the knock sensor is disabled or not? Didn't think so..

what i mean by knock sensor is when instlaling the motor, i was told that since i had the skunk2manifold, and was running a chipped p28
(which obviously now i'm not) that i would not have to worry about the knock sensor,

so i'm asking now that i have a computer that does look for knock (i'm assuming the p61 being a gsr ecu that it does search) then what do i have to do to make everything work, do i have to wire something in, anything else, i just remember being told not to worry about knock with a p28 so i was wondering whats up with the p61

sorry for the ignorance

ok, this is what you have..you got a 92-93 GSR obd 1 p61 5 speed ecu....it is pretty rare to have one (but i actually have a stock one for sale right now! LOL) anyways, according to your first pic, the ecu doesnt look socketed, but the other pic of the close of the chip, it does look like the chip is sitting in a low profile socket. It is definately perfectly fine to run that chipped ecu on your gsr since you are using a skunk2 IM. Keep this ecu just because its worth more than the stock p28 you had. btw, i pm'ed you back

Depends.. If you did the swap right, then the knock sensor wire should already be run. If its not, then you will need to run it yourself back to the ECU. The chip you have in there will most likely NOT read the knock sensor anyways, since most of those garbage chips like to ignore it.

well no i havent put the motor in yet, i havent run the wire, so i'm asking is it even worth running the wire if my ecu wont even read it?????

Yes, its worth while. so when you get a real chip and you can tune, you can enable the knock sensor.

Incorrect. Well, I know what you mean.. All the 92-93 GSR's were 5 speed. But not the 94+ models.

There seems to be a 10 ohm resistor in location R54. It's value should be 1000 (1k) ohms.
