Re: Understeer friggin' suck Donkey *****!!! (mittfu)
Why would you want oversteer? Oversteer, like understeer, is a condition where the car is not balanced and not making use of it's potential traction. Why not try and get the car neutral?
Why did you set the Tokicos on full? That's probably the cause right there. Try them around 2 or 3. I have the Tokico RAK kit and I have the front at 3 and the rear at 2.
Use the same tires front and rear.
Stay away from los burros.

Hmmm... 19 y/o--check. Class of 04--check. Dumb comment--check.
Anyway...
Neuspeed sofports on Koni Yellows (full turn up front, 1/2 turn out back), Suspension Techniques Speedtech rear sway/tie combo. I get PLENTY of oversteer w/ this setup. On cold tires, the car will do full-blown drifts. If I overcook it, the car will do a (controllable) 4-wheel drift instead of plowing into nowhere.
That said, I only learned all this on the auto-x course. I have yet to get the car to oversteer on the streets. If anything, now that I know how to bring the car to its limits auto-xing, I drive it more conservatively on the streets. You'd have to be retarded to drive to that point on the streets. I might go to 6/10ths--that's about it. I don't need to star in one of those "wrecked my car" threads.
Like everyone says, learn to drive. Don't kill anyone innocent while you're engaging in jackassery.

Haha, I'm pretty sure I'm older than you, at least physically. I'm saying that purely from a probability standpoint.
Never have understood our nanny culture. If he wants to find some empty road to kill himself on, it's his business. Do I want him doing it in neighborhoods? Nope. Do I care if he does it on an empty country road? Nope. Would he be better off on a track? Sure. How many people live near a track? Not that many. Even then, it's $300+ for a 2 day event (at least here in NOVA). I can afford it sure, can the 19 year olds? I wouldn't bet on it. There are no parking lots to practice on. Stores are either open all the time or you'll get arrested for tresspassing or wreckless.
He asked how to induce over-steer. He didn't ask for mommy to tell him it's a bad idea. He might BE an idiot but, as long as he isn't hurting anyone what do you care?
You want to ban me for expressing an opinion? What **** regiment did you graduate from?

H-T is about as anti-jackassery as you get. ****-esque, if you will. We get tired of reading about teens totalling their cars and/or dying just because they were driving beyond their abilities.
I get up at 5:30AM and drive 1 1/4 hours to autocross. That's how I get this crap out of my system. (I also have a bit more impulse contol, but that's an age thing)

Well, if he was my kid, I'd have something to say to him. He's not though. I don't assume I know what's best for him either.

Yeah me driving 5 mph over the limit is just the same as him drivng fast enough in a corner to understeer bad enough to hit a curb.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by mittfu »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">So I nailed a curb last weekend when I turned the wheel sharply in a hard corner. The wheels turned but the car didn't. Now I sit with the poor mans tow out and have to hold my wheel about a 1/6 of a turn to the left. The front right tire stick out about an inch to the right.
Now I sit here and try to contemplate how this could have been prevented, Is there any way that anyone here knows of to make an eg civic coupe oversteer instead of understeer. What Iv'e done to help so far is-
Skunk2 springs
Tokiko Illumina 5 way adjustable struts (set to the stiffest level)

i'll tell you right now,
your shocks are most likely too stiff.
make the front end stiff as a brick and you're going to plow like it's ******* xmas eve.
personally i'm not really a fan of the tokico/agx style shock where it adjusts the damping both on compression and rebound at the same time.
you want the rebound to be much stronger than the compression.
anyhoo, i'd say tone down your front shocks, turn up your rear shocks, and play wit the tire pressures, those will make huge changes.
heck when I first got my current car, I had my suspension on it(koni's) but the stock 13's.
well the person who sold me the car put 45psi in the front tires and 35psi in the rear!!
and man it oversteered really nicely!! haha, It was really wierd to actually turn in harder through a turn the more I got on it with 13" steelies!!
one of the front tires ended up popping on the freeway though, hehehe.

odd combination of suspension parts, get a fat rear sway bar, and slow down some, i've done the same thing, car>curb, it sucks. just be more careful

well if you know what your doing, a driver can correct oversteer, while with understeer its more of a hold on hope you don't hit ****.

Re: Understeer friggin' suck Donkey *****!!! (pdiggitydogg)
Just so were clear I would like to say that it was 2:30 AM on a Monday morning. (so technically it wasn't the weekend) The area was a rode that I travel every day. I had no problems when I bought the car in august. The main poblem I think is that the car I was sportin' before the civic was an 89 Mustang gt with posi. Other than the intake, headers, exhaust combo the car was almost completey stock. without any modifications to the tires or suspension I could come into that same corner about five miles an hour faster than my modded civic. The reason being is that over time I had nailed down the proper countersteer to pull out of some moderate oversteer. The mustang almost never understeered and I'm just not used to trying to turn the car and having nothing happen. The reason why I would rather have mycivic oversteer is that It is much easier to countersteer back in the other direction. with understeer there is quite literally no where to turn.
I'm going out to my car right now to increas the rear tire pressure and adjust the front shocks to be a little softer. I've also just ordered in a neuspeed rear sway bar to help stiffen up the back end.
just to let everyone know, I don't just race around on impulse. I may be only 20 but I try to stay as safe as possible.
i.e. Only driving in unpopulated areas,
Only driving fast early in the morning,
checking tire pressure and brake fluid before I go out
Taking a cell phone
having a friend follow after me (not going fast)
Big fog lamps and HID prjectors
tied to sparco racing buckets with 3" five points on a harness bar
first ad formost has been and will always be safety
If I knew that there had been a light drizzle in that area before I got there I would have just gone home. I only do this because I love spirited driving and I can't seem to find any autox events in my area within 300 miles, and if I do they are too few and far between.
