i want to buy exhaust, but im afraid it will attract attention and the cop will pull me over and ask to open my hood. does anyone know when a cop is allowed to search the hood?

what are you hiding under your hood? i think they can look under your hood if they suspect something. like too loud of exhaust etc.

i want to get 3inch exhaust w/ cat..but i dont want them to check the hood and find a turbo. even w/o exhaust, i dont want them to randomly check and find the turbo

even on TV, on "my life as a street racer" on MTV and VH1, the cops opened the hoods, and the lady cop wrote the guy a ticket for "modified intake." i know that most cops dont know, but just incase they do...what?

i love the fact that i live in texas....they dont even ask or care what you got under the hood of your honda. if it aint a 5.0 mustang then your car is just a noise maker to them

two words- fix-it ticket.

recently however, in so cal they have been giving another type of ticket called a "modified exhaust" ticket. this one actually costs 77 or so dollars. not the wimpy 10 dollars to fix. they can dick you for everything from having no front license plate (10) to having no catalytic converter (if they check, 3000)

Cops can look under your hood if they suspect something illegal. Another thing is, were you doing something to make them look under your hood or did they just feel like being ******? And the modified intake isn't something they can give you a ticket for in most states. I think you should look into gettting some FOP and PBA cards if you don't already have them.

in most states they can't give you a ticket for an intake and they obviously can't give you a ticket for things they can't see, such as internals. Other then that, just make sure your inspection is updated and your exhaust isn't too loud . Cops suck, that's why i love being the son of one.

for california. i believe anything modified after the cat is fine as long as it is below 95 db sound. in your case you will be going turbo... i'd suggest to make the car look as stock or show as possible. if you look and sound ghetto, then you are most likely to get your hood popped... when i get my hood popped, i usually just point to one C.A.R.B.E.D sticker and they leave me alone... with the turbo setup, this is an idea, but you might want to try and make a heat shield that will cover up the turbo, that way it will look more "stockish." another trick you might want to try is find some CARBED metal plates and weld them to the exhaust manifold... it may sound stupid, but cops might fall for it....

usually they will ask you if you have any mod's to the engine before they ask you to pop your hood.

of course the BOV is a big givaway that your car will not be stock...

cops can only look under your hood or search your car only if there is probable cause, meaning they have to have a warrant. i think its unconstitutional for them to do so without a warrant...but i could be wrong. the only thing i kno of that they can search ur car without a warrant for is if they suspected you of having any affiliation with terrorist activity as part of the new "homeland security act"...so unless they're searching for bombs, weapons, or bin laden in ur car, you have every right to tell them they need a warrant

First, if you get pulled over because of a missing license plate, exhaust, or moving violation...are these legit reasons to open the hood? i dont ever plan on going to illegal street races with my honda LOL

a fix it ticket for a turbo system sounds like a serious pain in the ***...i have to take it out and have them check again?

If they ask me if i have any mods, should i tell the truth, lie? or should i say "i ave some spark plug wires, uhh uhh, carb exempt intake...uh uh...and thats all officer"

suppose a knowlegable cops notices the turbo, can i get a ticket for "modified emissions regualtor" or something like that? similar to missing or modified cat? i dont want to pay a hefty fine

also, can my car be towed for any reason regarding the turbo

and also again....i was thinking about putting some aluminum pannels on top of the intake filter, and cover more of the compressor (like mentioned) so the cops cant see easily...can they do anything about it? can they give me a ticket for something like that?

an $80 non correctable violation (exhaust) ticket isnt so bad if its not too frequent, since you dont even have to fix it...just pay it

the problem with not letting a cop search your car is that they WILL call in and get a warant to search if you say no,,, you will not get to home first and then they come witht the warrant to search you will be waiting another hour and at that point the cop will write you up for every little bs thing he can find.... if you have a serious turbo or are venting the pcv into the atmosphere, running a testpipe or whatever then it might be worth tthe risk, but if you are only trying to hide an intake or an aftermarket header i think you should just let them do the search and hope they will be nice about it.

man I feel bad for all u guys in Cali and similiar states. Here in Miami, they don't care about any of that. They did away with emmissions testing years ago cuz they figured our air was clean enough. the only thing they sometimes care about is loud systems, and u have to be REALLY loud for them to stop u. Any other modification u do to your car they don't care about, when reading through these kind of forums when i first got my car i was afraid i would get stopped for my system and xtreme whites, but i've never had a problem

oh well, point is, if u wanna have all that stuff and not worry about the 5-0 just come down to Miami. U can have fun watching Ricers racing around Bird Rd. or Krome.

but the uncorrectable exhaust ticket will increase in price as you get more tickets.. plus the Modified intake ticket will cost your of ups to $120 dollars.. now most cops may not know what's up but if they do doubt your vechile is legal they will make you go the REFEREE which is not the most favorite place to go..and you still might have to pay for the uncorrectable exhaust or intake or exhaust manifold ticket..oh yeah there are no more FIX-IT-TICKETS for those 3 items kinda sucks..this has been in effect since Jan 1st of 2002

dont we all love california? i got a modified exhaust ticket and made an *** of myself at the court house talking **** about how it was fixable but it wasnt. damn new laws! cost me 75 bux . is that a point on your record?

for the turbo issue, you have a greddy 15g? arent those kits cali carb legal? if you just have the turbo then you might wanna hide it or get a ahold of a carb plate. but if you have the kit thats legal in cali, no worries man, just point to that lovely carb plate

just make sure you get a resonator on your exhaust....it'll quiet down your exhaust note....

also stupid things will get them to look under the hood....dont look like a "racer"...

ie: millions of stickers, super loud exhaust, strobe lights...

do you have your carb sticker on there? for the civic kit? just point to that when they ask you to pop the hood, they don't usually check the carb number. just hope for the best.

nope...no stamp, no nothing, the box has a sticker that says illegal for sale in california...i think

do they make 3 inch resonators? or is that a glass pack? if so, would it fit anywhere down there? man, if i could fit 2 resonators, i probably would do it too.

I only have a slight lowering, rims in the future, and hopfully maybe exhaust...and a boost gauge and turbo timer...im a lanky short asian dude...lol
