Default synthetic oil in a d16?

ok so i was thinking about running some synthetic oil in my del sol. it has the original d16 in it and im pretty sure it has never had synthetic oil ran through it. ive heard from my friends dad that its not a good idea to use synthetic oil in that old of a car (mine is a 1994). what do you guys think? should i not worry about using synthetic, or does it not matter about what kind of oil it is? thanks for the input!

I wouldn't do it. If your engine is high mileage, introducing synthetic can cause more problems with leaks and burning. I tried it once in my car and it didn't like it at all. Besides, it's just a d16. Any quality dino oil will be more than enough protection.

wow, i hate the way ppl act like synthetic is not petroleum. lol lol u can mix it together on and off and wont hurt anything. only thing synthetic can do is show u where ur car is leaking oil that u have never seen b4. bc it is more slippery to the touch will leak in places u nvr had some

how many miles on your motor?I'd do a compression test, see if it's healthy then go from there. If it's burning oil or needs valve seals or piston rings no point in spending more money on a "wounded" engine, best of luck.

That was kindof the point of my post. I put synthetic in my old, tired d16, and it started leaking more. I don't like expensive oil leaking out onto my garage floor, so I went back to dino. Why the hell would he need synthetic anyways? Judging by his signature, he's not boosted, doesn't have high horsepower, so why change?. My d16 has treated me well over 220k miles on nothing but dino oil, except for that short stint on synthetic.

its not that i need it i was just wondering in case i wanted to try it. my engine just turned over 104xxx miles, and not to toot my own horn, but my car runs like a top, and there are no leaks, burns, ticks, or any other noises with it.

I'd just go high mileage personally. It binds much quicker to metal than ordinary oil, you'll see your oil pressure gauge jump up the minute you start the car. It's formulated for cars over 75,000 and has never given me trouble. It's "synthetic" in a sense as well.

if i was you i dont doit, because that oil is taking more time to get burn and the oil will be the same for long time on your engine and that will put the inside of your engine dirty, just continuos with the normal one that is more safely, one time i did that to another civic that i got and when i open my oil paw it was dirty as fu... and i never see it like that, good luck with that

I switched over from dino to 5W30 full synthetic on my 2000 EX at 104,000mi. (after performing two auto-rx treatments). My engine ran like a top before, with no leaks or burning, and it still does (at 115K now).

why dont you seafoam the motor to see how much carbon you burn, i got a couple more numbers on my top speed and better mpg on my supra and my b20 ek, you dont have to change the oil to get better performance or reliability from the motor

Yea i recon... I put in AmsOil full syn, just to see if there is a difference... Works great! Looks clean as a whistle everytime I check it and Only one way to find out OP, switch it over and see what happens, if it leaks that just means it started sooner then later... Go for it.

I should have put that. Switch and keep a close eye on it, if it burns faster the usal or leaks switch back to the regular stuff.

hells yeah seafoam, ok how to: alright go to oreillys and buy the 9 dollar can, drive home wait! you need to drive there first and pay for it then drive home! lol alright seriously open the can up and take off the vaccum hose going "to" the brake booster and put the hose in the bottem of the can then have someone start the motor and and slowly open the tb by hand but just a little, your motor is gonna sound like **** for a while but it'll be fine and your deff gonna have alot of white smoke come from the exhaust, its fine. now if the motor dies before your done just start it back up again and keep going untill the can is empty and then drive the car untill the white smoke is gone and bam! your done and youve gotta cleanish engine and from now on keepgetting gas from staions that have ethonal in the fuel oh and dont forget to put the vaccum hose back on the booster

i would not use it like others have said mostly because it tends to make small leaks worse. also there is only 1 reason to use synthetic in a street car and that is because you can go longer between changes(unless the manufacturer calls for it)............ it honestly does not have any other advantages in a street car. a good quality conventional high mileage oil will do EVERYTHING an older DD needs it to do and then some.

seafoam is good, about the best you are gonna get from a parts store. but a better one is BG 44K, most dealerships use it. and its easier than seafoam(not that seafoam is hard) but you just put it in with a full tank and go.
