Swapping Ignition Switch
I searched and kept coming up with around a thousand results.
Is it possible for me to swap the ignition from one column to another. I have a new ex tilt column i am trying to use and would like to keep my old ignition.
Thanks guys.

Re: Swapping Ignition Switch (White Lightnin)
As long as you use the entire ignition cylinder, yes. I've put a 1994 GSR's ignition cylinder in my brother's 1992 EH2 Civic...of course you'll need to use the proper keys for the door locks and ignition, but it's an added security measure .
Do it up. It's pretty easy.

Re: Swapping Ignition Switch (White Lightnin)
It's possible to swap the ignition key switch over but its not as easy as unbolting and bolting back up. The ignition switch is bolted one with these break-away type bolts. At a certain torque the bolt heads break off from the screws so that thieves cant remove the ignition switch by just unbolting it thats why they usually smack the **** out of it to crack it off. If you want to remove it the correct way, you will have to take a dremel cut-off tool and create a slot on each of the two bolts that hold the ignition on the column. You can then use a flat headed screw driver to remove the bolts and swap the switches. A problem that you might encounter is that there isn't too much space to work with between the column and the dash so you might have to drop the column down. Ohh yeah i know all of this because someone stole my civic before and when it was recovered I had to do the exact same thing.

Yes. I had a friend recently swap his ignition switch out for another one, he was worried he was going to have to use another key for the ignition but everything swapped over with no problems.
EDIT: help a customer then hit reply and everything is already answered, geez.

Re: Swapping Ignition Switch (INVALID)
I have both columns out of the car. I have taken mine all apart messing with it, trying to figure it out. I see the two bolts you are talking about. They seem to have an allen head that was filled in or something. so i can grind two slots into these and remove the whole assembly with a flathead?
Things keep getting more complicated. Swapping a full interior is no weekend project.

You can swap ONLY the cylinder without having to swap colums or remove the entire Ignition. Its kinda tricky but I just did it on a 92 civic I had and I did not want to have 2 keys. Email me if you'd like and I will walk you through it. upgraded@bellsouth.net

You have asked three times... why don't you just try it. What you are asking isn't common knowledge, so you may be waiting a while before someone who knows for sure the answers that you seek actually responds. If the key blanks are the same type, there is a good chance that the cylinder may work.
