Default Strut bar as a harness mount?

Unfortunatly I can't afford to not have a back seat so i'm puutin seats in. I was just wondering. The rear upper strut bar is in a perfect spot to double it as a mount for some racing harnessess. Would it be cool for me to use it like that or would that damage the unit? or more importantly do you think it would fail and send the girls flying into the harness mount for the front seats?. A chick with no teeth would be cool in some instances but not so cool in others.

i perosnlly would not do that as the strut tower bar is NOT designed to take the load and impact that a harness mount needs. i would spend the money and do it right,

A strut bar as a harness mount is not a good place. It'll leave too much slack in the harness and it won't be at the correct angle. Do it right and use a harness bar.

umm those 4 little 14mm bolts wont hold ur *** down when you crash.
most strut bars are not even that strong to handle such a force.. way too dangerious. dont do it

Never, ever use a strut tower bar to mount harnesses.

Never, ever use harnesses on the street without a roll bar.

Mount your harnesses to the roll bar's harness bar, which is designed for such use.

Don't have rollover protection? Then you shouldn't be using harnesses either, unless it is strictly for autocross.

like i said i'm good to go for harness mounts in the front but I held on to the back seats and have nothing to mount them to. Should i just extend the cage to the back? would it be unheard of to have the cage come down and actually bolt into the spot where the rear upper strut bar would go?

Maybe try installing seat belts in OEM locations? I mean, sounds pretty crazy, but I bet it might just work.

The sholder straps for a 4/5 point harness need to be connected to a roll cage, not the the oem locations.

He's talking about installing regular old OEM style seat belts instead of racing harnesses for the back seats.

appreciate the input guys, just gonna have to do this one right. Best that way anyway, Yes I am putting racing harnessess inthe back. Its has to match, Its an obsessive compulsive thing. EVERYTHING has to be the same, match and be in order. Fellow marines will understand this.

damn from i read he has a harness bar for the front seat, which is in it self a totally useless piece, but he wants harnesses for his girls in the back,(no one should ride in back of a car with a roll bar or that said useless harness bar anyway) that are attach to a bar well below the shoulders of the people the the harness are suppose to be protecting and will bend with the G of a 100 lb or so mass being pulled forward, as that person gets a compressed spine, smacks the face of the harness bar. so if they somehow live though this impact they will paralizeds eating though a straw, and if they are luckly they brain will function enough to relize how dumb they were for getting in to your car.

Yeah, but at least his non-functional seat belts were all matching! I mean, thats the important part, right?

sounds like a dangerous car to be in if you ask me.
a street car shouldnt have a cage in it since it massively increasese the chances of head injury in an accident....unless everyone has a helmet on!

there should be NO occupants behind the harness bar...period. It's not worth the risk.

Don't try and look the racer part....

hahahah...and to think, I was feeling retarded for using my strut bar to temporarily hold my sub enclosure in place.

The factory seatbelts should work for your rear seat passengers for just driving on the street and nobody belongs back there on the track.

I never try to look anything, I don't front. I simply have my way, wrong or not theres no such thing as impossible. The best look is when someone tells me something can't be done and I go and do it. To many people live their lives worried about the limitations others have set in front of them. You shouldn't fear dying. Not living should terrify the hell out of you. I'm no evil kanivel (or however its spelled) but do you think if you asked him if he had lived his life to the fullest he would say no? How many of you can say yes? I'm not tryin to start an argument so lets not take it that way. Just stop telling yourselves what can't be done.

Welcome to the real world bitches where life is pain and we play for keeps.

Make sure you give the people you're putting in the back seat that same speech before you start driving, ok.

Congratulations, you're brain-dead.

Just pray you A) don't kill or disable a friend by having them in that backseat, and B) don't get sued for everything you have if such a thing were to happen.

I'd never get in the back seat of a car with a harness bar or a roll bar/cage. I'd never wear a harness without rollover protection for anything but autocross either. Afraid? No, just smarter than you. Your username fits you well.
