Signs of a Distributor going bad?
Sorry if this seems obvious or whatever but I'm still learning...
'95 ex stock D16z6 Manual
Anyway, I noticed my RPMs will jump up an extra 500-800 when I'm going in full throttle past 4,000 RPM. The gauge will rise smoothly and just suddenly jump up and start going crazy for a second or two not matching to the actual engine speed. Second, I noticed when at night, with the increased electrical load (because of the headlights/dash lights) the car will idle rougher and every minute or two the rpms will jump from 600 to 900-1000, before doing this the car will shake and make a rough vibrating noise. Same will also happen at times when I press the brakes (With lights on). The battery is holding at 12.50v and while the engines running it holds at 14.17v, I'm pretty sure it's not the alternator as well. All I can think of is the Dizzy but I don't want to replace it just yet if anyone else has an idea, I may also get it tested at AutoZone tomorrow as well.
Any inputs please, thanks.
Edit: I forgot to mention, the car seems to run unusually weak with the AC on.

well the rpm gauge going crazy is a pretty good sign in itself that the dizzy is going bad. i dunno if i could say for sure that the distributor is the problem, but i certainly wouldn't be suprised if that was the case.

Re: Signs of a Distributor going bad?
Anyone know an at home test I may be able to do on the Dizzy? Maybe a link? All I can find for the last 30min are useless info from Google and bad guides.
Edit: Could it be the IAC Valve? Maybe it's just dirty or clogged up a bit. The problems mainly occur during idle, but I guess that wouldn't explain the RPMs jumping while in VTEC.

i can get you an igniter test to try out. since its an intermittent issue though, i dunno if this test will necessarily tell you anythings wrong.. worth a shot though i guess.
