shift lock solenoid and transmition
is it rare for a shift lock solenoid to go out? my car will not go into gear and its stuck in park. i have to put it in neutral then i can drive it. i took the entire center console out and check to make sure that there wasnt any junk in there. i did how ever find one wire that was spliced and reatached. i just put some electrical tape on it and made sure it wasnt loose, and all the other wires were ok. then my car shifted perfect for about 10mins from park to drive. then it went back to the way it was. now when i turn it on it will light up the parking light and the d4 light will come on for about 5 seconds then turn off. i also heard that theres a sensor were the brake is for the shift lock, is this true? also i'm having problems with my tranny it will only shift in high gears. the auto 1st gear will change at around 25mph and 2nd gear will change around 55-60mph.

Your D4 light will blink like a check engine light when you Jump the ECU. I havent been able to find online anywhere the Codes for Honda auto transmissions. Do you have any check engine lights?

have you tested the wire input / output from that relay box you switched out over to the solenoid? test to see if your getting any power/ground when you press the brake pedal down over to the solenoid wire under the center console. your going to need a DMM to test the polarity on the wire.

i'm going to do that today i know that the solenoid is working cause i put a 12v current staight to it and it poped like a vtec solenoid.

Re: shift lock solenoid and transmition
I have an awkwardly similar issue with my 97 Honda accord auto, i never experienced any transmission slippage. One night driving in D4 randomly i felt like it slipped into neutral. I turned the car off and started it 3 to 5 mins later it would engage in any gear and responds accordingly for 30 sec to a min then feels like neutral this is with the shiftier into that corresponding selected gear. the first thing i checked was gear oil it was good. checked fuses. had a good friend check the axles he said it seems intact. assumptions from an experienced mech is its doing something called "neutralling up". diagnosis are not done cause they checking the codes, engine light is on and they gonna check the solenoid as well. unless any one has some good 2 cents.
