Rough Idle When I Apply Brakes...
I have a 2000 Civic Si - DC 4-1 Header, Apexi Catback, Injen CAI. When I am in traffic and I apply my brakes, I notice that my car idles a lot rougher. I can let off the brake, and it stops. I can feel it in my shifter and my catback rattles a little when it happens. It isnt violent or anything, someone else in the car with me may not even notice but it bugs the hell out of me.
I didnt think brakes where related to the drivetrain much at all. Anyone have suggestions on what could be wrong or what I can do to fix it?

Re: Rough Idle When I Apply Brakes... (axhandler)
Axhandler - No steering wheel shake, like I said it isnt very violent, but its there. Sometimes I let out the clutch, sometimes I dont, it doesnt make a difference.
Built2Spill - I still have stock rotors, no braking problems yet, I just turned 35k miles today. It is only when the car is sitting still, so I wouldnt think the rotors would play a part.
Thanks for the opinions though guys. Anyone else?

It could be your cat, my boi's cat made those rattling noises whenever he would brake and idle.... Check if your cat is not hitting any part of the car..wouldn't hurt right? ...Sometimes people install those slightly off....

I'll check that out, I guess the cat could be hitting that heat sheild right above it. But I still think the rattle is coming from around where the axleback meets the midpipe.

Check your grounding. Since your brakes are assisted, it puts a load on your car when you apply the brakes, causing the idle to drop.
I'm not saying that it's the problem, but it's a good place to start. My car did the sam thing cause my neg wire on my battery came off

in traffic...as in, when you are sitting at a dead stop and apply your brakes???
It could be the check valve from the intake manifold to the power booster....

happens to me too...with my the rev goes down a little also, so its def something with the load on the E system...with mine anyway...better grounds might fix the prob..

i would also double check my brake booster for leaks if i were you that big back hose running into it maybe leaking causing it to do that. now lil bit of rough idle is normal because both of my hatches do that same thing

It could be, since when you apply the brakes your idle drops a bit (if you don't believe it, pump your brakes a few times at a stop light and watch your revs bounce back up).
Maybe you have your idle screw adjusted too low. What are you idling at?

i do beleive this is normal, it happens to me too, i think what he is saying...
he is stopped, foot on the brake, makes the car idle lower, making the idle less smooth, and makes the car vibrate a bit more.. mine does exactly that, now im not saying for fact, but, im pretty sure this is a normal thing....

Exactly, It wouldnt bother me to much but when it happens my exhaust rattles and it drives me crazy. I have a DC Sport 4-1 into stock cat with Apexi World Sport Series 1 Catback. I never had the problem until AFTER I installed my header. Any ideas?

There you go, you answered your own question.

What can I do to fix the problem though? I'm guessing the header hangs a little lower than stock so it tilted the rear of the exhaust up but how can I straighten everything out?

Re: Rough Idle When I Apply Brakes... (MCline)
Hrm, well I have a brake question as well... when I depress teh brake peddle on a 2000 civic ex... (let it off) it squeeks, whether the car is on or off... my father thought that it was nothing major and just might need lubed somewhere, but also reciently my brakes have lost power... and are getting mushy... they have to be pressed almost all the way to stop.. this sound is only when let off, no sound when actually braking...
Thanks in advance

Poss a brake booster leaking vacuum due to a torn diaphragm.
