Default Removed cylinder head rust on cylinder walls need advice?

I removed the cylinder head on a 96 civic hb cx model due to a blown headgasket and now I see some rust on the cylinder walls. The rust was prob caused by the coolant which had leaked in the cylinder chamber. I can feel the rust when going over it with my finger. My question is how to get the rust off the walls without having to take the block apart and get it honed. I figure if I left the rust on the walls and fired up the engine, later the rings might get damaged or the cylinder will not hold compression due to the rust. Is there some type of spray that will take the rust off the cylinder walls? Will firing up the engine take the rust off without damaging anything? Any input would be appreciated. Also some dirt and remaining headgasket left on the block fell into the block. Would is the best way to flush out the block from harmful particles and what not. Can gasoline be used?
Thank you

I'd say since you have misc. particles of crap in different parts of the block the best thing to do would be to take it all apart and clean it well. I did have some rust on the sleeves of my shortblock when it arrived and it came off with some WD-40 though it wasn't much rust. Just a thought.

wipe it down with a rag and wd40. Its only surface rust. I wouldnt think twice about just starting the motor up like that. Nothing will happen.
