rear disc conversion question ?
okay i have a question concering about the rear discs conversion. thier are four torxs on the back of the backing plate. can you just swap the spindles and the backing plate with out removing the whole disc assembly because i got bolts that don't want to come off . will it work has any one tried this to cut corners or is it impossible.

Re: rear disc conversion question ? (hondaon18's)
Depends on makes. I got a '94 Teg suspension for my '97 Civic and ended up using my RTA's because the Teg one's were bent. I believe I did however have to use the Teg e-brake cables. Someone correct me if I am wrong on that (I don't it was a while ago). But again, it does depend on the make/model the disc came off of and the make/model they are going on to as to just swapping the spindle.

okay i rear conversion off a 94 honda civic si hatch. and they are going on a 92 hatch cx so want to know if i can use the spindels and the backing plate from the si on to my 92 cx with drums. i want to know if can take the drums and spindles off the cx and convert it by putting the spindles of the si with out taking off the control arms and stuff. has any one ever tried this to save time?

Just from looking at the service manual it looks like it can't be done without changing out the control arms, but I would really hate to have to buy a whole control arm. I'm looking into this also so I'll post what I find out here.

Re: rear disc conversion question ? (the_asteroid)
Just hit up a junk yard for the lower control arms and get the energy suspension bushing kit to replace the rubbers, the kit is cheap and makes a huge difference. Other than the rubber inserts, the lower control arms don't take any wear. It's a safe bet. I just did a conversion on my EG2 from a 91 CRX si, the only problem i ran into was the ebrake cable, i'm actually still working that out. Good luck with yours.

Re: rear disc conversion question ? (elsombradelsol)
Yup, I called a salvage yard yesterday, they want $350 for everything required for the conversion. I've dealt with the guys at this yard for more than a few years now and they have pretty much always been willing to work with me on stuff like this. So if I can get down there today (I really need to sleep though) I'll see what works as far as control arms, I'd still rather not have to pay for the things if I don't have to.

$350 sounds about right for that. I think http://www.sohfast.com carries a conversion kit for about that price, and you'll know you're getting everything you need.

I was at my local junk yard and i found a 94 teg with rear disc, and he said he'd sell me all the rear disc components including LCA's and the swaybar setup for $180 All bolts and clips included. Sounds like your getting ripped off.

Re: (95vxtealhatch)
yeah i already got the lower control arms from a coupe and replaced the bushing all of them with energy suspesion parts. but my question is if i can swap the backing plate and hub from a drum set to put a disc backing plate and hub . can it be done. has anyone seen the four screws in back of the backing plate has anyone removed these screws? thats what i want to figure out then it will save me a little more time then removing the whole rear parts. cause i got some screws that don't move for nothing and i don't want to break them off cause then i have no way of putting a new one on. thanks

Re: (hondaon18's)
I just got done removing the four tork bolts that you're talking about not more then five minutes ago. I pulled the entire brake assembly off of it to spray some PB Blaster on the back side and let it penetrate for a bout 15 minutes while I ran down to Napa to pick up a 24 mm impact socket to get the nut off of spindle on the back side of the trailinf arm. It went very easy.

You can prep your bolts with 3-in-1 and/or PB Blaster. Use of a Propane Torch might help for the Torx Bolts, but don't use it on the Nyloc Nut (it will burn the nylon).
I had no trouble removing the Spindles from the Disc Brake TA after doing this, using a 2' breaker bar. Another suggestion is to use an Impact Driver & Impact-ready Extension to remove your Torx Bolts (try this, even if they're stripped).
If you weren't warned before... ** DON'T USE AIR TOOLS FOR YOUR TORX BOLTS ** Sorry it happened...
Good Luck!

Re: (JasonGhostz)
I used PB Blast on the disk brakes spindles and let them soak for about 15 minutes. The torx were short of flush by a few mm's so they got a good soaking.
The torx on the drum brakes were flush, so soaking didn't do much. After stripping the torx and getting pissed off, I went inside to calm down. As I sat there, I remembered that I had a hand held hammer impact driver. Went back to the garage, heated up the spindle plate and started hammering. I ended up having to put a pipe wrench on the impact driver and leaning into it with my chest while hammering. I beat on them for about and hour, but finally got them all out.
Now for the reassemble and install, but I need a shower and a beer first.

Re: (hondaon18's)
Make sure you spray them down, apply heat to the spindle part AND use an impact driver. I paid like 10 bucks for mine at the hardware store. Money well spent

The T50 Bolts will be reusable. You'll have 8 from your Donor Arms, and 8 on your current vehicle. Just make sure the threads are clean, the Heads aren't stripped, and you should be fine. From what I remember, these Bolts were secured with Loctite Blue...
If you must replace them with something other than the T50s that came with them, these Bolts have the same size Diameter and Thread Pitch as your Suspension Bolts (other than your Chassis/Trailing Arm Bolts (10mm, ?TP?)).
Let us know how things go!
