GSR swap red lining at 4k rpm!! NO CEL- V.-Im stumped!
Ok guys! I just did a Gsr swap on my 94 hatch. The swap was running but had a burnt valve when pulled out of the last car. I changed the valve and replaced all the gaskets and seals on the motor then dropped it in my hatch. The motor idles and runs great. I took it around the block no leaks or anything. BUT it wont rev passed 4k. all sensors are plugged up EXcept for the O2 sensor and vtec solenoid.
The ecu I'm using is a p05 but i dont have any Cel. Not even for the O2. It seems as if its in limp mode but I dont have any CELs. I figured maybe my ecu had went out. I borrowed a p72 ecu from a friend and it still didnt fix the problem. Although it still let me rev to 5k. Also the p72 gave me two CELs. one for O2 and one for the vtec pressure switch. But with either its still not right.
I borrowed a header from a friend so Ill be putting it on there tomorrow to get a O2 on there. But i've had swaps before without O2 on there and it still let me rev.
Guys Im truly stumped on this one! Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
CLIFFS:
-Installed motor
-idles perfect
-NO CELS
-no O2 yet
-Won't rev passed 4k.

Bump! Any ideas? Btw I had forgot that the p05 ecu is a single wire o2 so that's probably why I'm not throwing a code on it.

tried a different dizzy today. problem is still there.
also tried a different map sensor along with the new dizzy but still didnt fix it.
I've checked all the harness and sensors over and over so Im fresh out of ideas. if anyone has any ideas lmk Id really appreciate it!

p72 is the ecu you wanna run....although you still could not rev past 5k because of the vtec pressure switch if i remember right. the cel puts the car in limp mode but you need to fix the pressure switch and the 02 and the p72 should work fine

I wish bro. but the car would still rev to 7k. BUT If i saw a post like mine the first thing i would've said would be take care of your cels. So I did. Vtec is wired up O2 is fixed and the only difference is that now it wont let me go passed 4k while parked and it redlines at @3-3500 when driving. I have NO CEL and I'm running a p72. if anyone has any ideas please lmk I'd really appreciate it guys!

fuel pressure stays a lil over 40psi and at 4500 when it red lines it gets to around 60psi

does it feel like 4k? because i had the same problem with my swap my car would redline at 6k sometimes even 5500. i swapped out a bunch of parts and it turned out to be that my tach was way off after i put in an autometer tach i was at 8800 all day everyday lol

my car did the same thing and it had to do with the fuel dampner on the fuel rail it had washers stuck in it sittin there i was able to take it to 5k and driving it wouldnt go over 3k so it sounds like u r not gettin enough fuel

Are you sure? You are saying redlining... which doesn't seem the correct terminology. You mean it feels like a revlimit? I bet your tach is messed up.

I had this issuenwith my ls in my ek turned out to be the plug for the coolant sensor was wrong I switched the plug nd was fine good luck

Lol well obviously its not REDLINING but its what it feels like. as if its "redlining" at 4k. I've heard some ppl have problems and it being the tach just messed up. but this isn't the case this time. vtec doesnt engage either. I can do either WOT or slowly climb and it still wont rev passed 4k. Thanks though. Believe me I WISH it was my tach lol

I'm gonna look into this man. I got a AEM fuel rail with a guage on it. im getting @ 40psi at idle at like 60psi WOT. Im not sure what its supposed to be at so Im gonna look that up and see if Im getting enough psi. Thanks for the advice man

Blah just looked it up and fuel pressure is supposed to be 40-46 at idle and 55-60 WOT so I'm on point. But i'm gonna go ahead and swap out my injectors tomorrow since thats about the only thing i haven't done so far

Are you telling me you honestly could not tell the difference between 8800 and 5500 without a guage?

Haven't had time to work oni it till today. I replaced the ecu with a chipped out p28 today. It reved to 5k and then it dropped to 4k on its own. So I now took out the engine harness and replaced it with another I had laying around, the car now revs to 5500 rpm everytime but doesnt go passed that. on the chipped p28 or the original p72. No check engine on either. No fluid or vaccum leaks. The cars idles and drives great too. Idk what to do with it.
Also did a compression test and the results were 220 all across so I know the motor is solid.
Any other thoughts? ideas? What are your motors redlining at in neutral? Im still Stumped

make sure that all the wires to the dizzy are good....make sure there isnt any spliced...had the same problem with my car and the one of the dizzy wires came apart!

Thanks for the idea ill try that out although since I'm having the problem in neutral where vtec wont engage I just don't think it'd make a difference. But ill try anything right now. Except Guy on Guy.
Lol that's actually everything I've done except for the cliff. I'm in southeast TX so we don't have any cliffs. My cars lucky.
