Default possible rear LCA problem

I brought my 96 EK sedan to the suspension shop today trying to look for the source of a clunking sound. We removing the bolt that connects the LCA to the shock absorber. The LCA was able to swivel up and down with almost no resistance whatsoever, is this usually the case? If not, then what could be the problem. The mechanic says it might be the bushings, but I'm using polyurethane bushings which are supposed to last a long long time. Appreciate any help...
