Default piston to valve?

hey i was just talking to my buddy about piston to valve clearance. i always though that all you had to do was clay the top of the piston and torque the head down with out a gasket then rotate the motor but he was saying that you have to pump up the oil for it to switch to vtec lobes? has anybody heard of this?

i remember reading somewhere about a trick that locked the rockers in high lift (VTEC pin engaged) but i don't remember the details. you could try searching the web for that. you can also apply compressed air from a compressor or something, to the VTEC service port. i think in many cases this is on the 5th cam cap near the solenoid.
