Default Painting interior this winter break

So I've decided to paint my interior black this winter. Im going to paint the dashboard, door panels, etc. I've gotten advice to use DupliColor High Performance Vinyl & Fabric Coating. Now for the question, is primer and clear coating needed? I want this to last for a long duration of time so I want no flakes. Please no flaming, I'm just in need of some advise.

i dont recommend rattle canning the interior. I have seen it done, but it doesnt look right. it will also still flake and chip, and if your surface is not 100% clean it will raise the paint and show every imperfection.

there was a HUGE DIY write up on here earlier about a guy who did the primer, dupont paint the whole nine yards and it came out great. i just dont think you would be happy w/ the results.

I didnt use primer or any clear coats...just took 600 grit sand paper to everything then cleand everything off and sprayed 2 coats..looks great..i even used it on the steering wheel and no wear marks or chipping...just make sure u sand and clean it and ur good to go!

I agree^^^.

But, if you REALLY want to do this. Get out an old toothbrush and a pre-paint cleaner and go to town. You have to clean every nook and crany, otherwise it will(should) eventually peel.

94 teggy - prior to painting it. I've heard you had to scrub it down and maybe use some type of de-greaser. What type of soap can I use to get it very clean?

Doc13 - Yeah the owner before me tried painting it black and it faded over time for some reason. So anything would look better than how it looks like now.
