opinion on SI
hey I have a 97 civic dx with a hampster wheel in it and I am currently saving up for a civic si but im not sure what year to go for and what mods to work on first I was thinking a 99 at about 13,000 which are the prices I have seen it at. also what year do the si change body types and which one is the easiest to put mods in. any suggestions or comments would help.

Hmmm, SI huh. Well if you want the one with the B16 you have to go with 99-00
Those are the only two years, there were no changes. If you are talking about the 6th Gen changes the 96-98's have a different front bumper cover than the 99-00's.
Now, if you like the hatches then 92-95 had the SI hatch. I am not sure what engine was in it, I do know it was a SOHC.
Question, Is your DX a hatch? If so, swap a B18C into it (the GSR engine) if not, yer right sell it and get either a 13,000 SI or a 3,000 92-95 hatch and take the other 10 G's and mod the hell out of it.

Hmmm.. SI's are slow. Get a GSR. But if that's the only thing you could afford right now, then get a 99 one. They have lots of parts for it, and it's easy to work on. Or you can save up some cash, and drop a motor in your DX right now. That will probably be the cheapest option.

Re: opinion on SI (maxim_force)
A stock ITR has only 30 more hp than a stock SI and your car probably cost 10K more than the SI. All I can say is...I feel sorry for you
BTW- It's 35 more HP's, and you forgot that the car handles much better, and comes with better interior, and the engine is much better.

Re: opinion on SI (ITR 2K)
Well...
Si's get stolen like nobody's business. As to ITR's (I'd actually be WAY more paranoid owning an ITR). It's a pain in the *** to be worried about a stupid civic getting boosted, but I deal with it. Much better now that it isn't my daily driver
Drag racing an Si is an exercise in frustration.
As for mods, well, the Si doesn't respond too well to bolt-ons. You'll drop a grand or more on intake/header/exhaust and get a whopping 10 whp (maybe) as a reward. Cams or forced induction are more worthwhile, but you'll need the damn bolt-ons either way.
If I had it to do all over again, I'd get an EK hatch and go b16a or b18c1, simply from a performance standpoint--that, and I like how EK's look. However, I'm keeping my Si because after all that, I still love it. It's a blast to drive, gets plenty of stares and compliments and it is reliable and practical.
There's no crime against putting a swap in your DX. It'll still give good performance, after all. It'll outrun an Si, which is also an advantage.
so there's my $.02

I only paid 19 for mine. Si's are still running around 15 or 16. I'm sure you would rather have an ITR over SI. I driven both cars, and the ITR is much faster. I was once in love with the SI. I was saving up for one. But the fact is, if I had a choice between an SI, or an ITR, I would choose the ITR. So, you don't have to feel sorry for me, because I feel sorry for you, for not having the experience of owning an ITR. Peace out loser.

Yes, I have test driven a couple of ITR's so don't feel that I haven't experienced the mighty HypeR, not all that special by the way. You are correct about the handling of the ITR it is very nice, but is still no mystery nor is the LSD and can be acquired with a relatively small amount of money. And interior is irrelevant, since my post was about power anyway. Why don't you just admit you spent to much on your GSR?

Re: opinion on SI (maxim_force)
if you bought a 2000 ITR for $19k, it's salvaged, and don't say it wasn't. Don't deal with salvaged cars, no matter how minor the accident. or theft recovery, you don't know what they stole and replaced.
that's my $0.04
that's my $0.04

Re: opinion on SI (Civic Hatch Boy)
Why are you guys hating? Like I said, I like the SI, it was my favorite car for a very long time, I really wanted a black one ever since I was 16, and I was saving up to get one. But you have to admit, it's pretty damn slow. My buddy bought his SI 4 months ago for $18,500. And for the moron who said my ITR was salvaged, you must be a dumbass, because I personally knew the owner dumb ****, that's how I got such a good deal. My suggestion was for nfielder3 to buy the SI and mod it. All of a sudden I'm not allowed to have my own opinion? My opinion on the SI being slow is like your opinion on the Type R being an over rated car. Truth is, I would have bought the SI, if I didn't get this deal on the ITR. You guys have to admit, you wanted an ITR once. Am I right? nfielder3 asked for our opinion on the SI, and that's my opinion, it's slow. The engine is good, but it's in the wrong car. It was bad *** when it was in the Del Sol, but it's not as impressive in a Civic. I've been to tracks, where Si's barely hit 15's. Some hit 16's. My ITR ran 14.7 bone stock. For all those haters out there, stop, cause it's not worth it. We all are allowed our own opinions, and my opinion is the SI is slow.

Re: opinion on SI (maxim_force)
Oh, sorry 5 more horsepower..but you get the point. Paying 19K on an 2000(I assume the year by your user name) ITR seems few and far between to me unless the seller was a complete moron. If I had the money I wouldn't waste the extra 4K on the Hype anyway. Why not boost the Si with the extra 4K and walk on the ITR.

Re: opinion on SI (kitkatR)
Look around and what do you see? CIVICS everywhere! Maybe not an Si...but how many Type R's do you see? Probably not near as much as Civics. I don't like big-headed Civic drivers who base the Type R on hp. It's all about the handling that makes it so unique. Damn ignorant people!

Re: opinion on SI (kitkatR)
wow you R owners sure are ********. And if there's any Type R in oregon that thinks he's the **** and can beat any honda on the road like you guys seem to, bring it to PIR and i'll beat you without the power of the almighty vtec. There's no replacement for a big turbo and 10 lbs of boost...
