Long story to tell kind of but today was not a good day at all ended up not sleeping at all the past three days and today, Or yesterday rather friday I felt like crap the whole day sick to my stomach. I guess Karma was back for revenge today because amongst the no sleep and sickness I also was driving my girl home from town. Turned on to her road which is a basic straight away so not ricey dangerous but spirited driving was involved i didnt go over the limit but was bringing the car up to the upper RPMs just for ammusement. well after getting past id say 4500 RPM I noticed a bad sound from below the car like a clickity clack seemed to be like an overly amplified lifter tap and my oil light went on and off going around turns or over bumps just blink on real quick than shut back off.
So I dropped of my girl and started driving home the noise started occuring and the light began to blink more frequently, So I pulled over checked my oil I was a little bit low. Put some oil in let the engine cool a little bit and started to drive home again noise did quiet down for a second but started occuring in the even lower RPMs around 3000-2500 RPMs and I started to notice when this noise occured the car would start racing but not gain any significant speed what so ever.
I got home gave it a few revs with the clutch in and the noise occured either way clutch in or out. Shut off the car went in to take a shower and put new clothes on to go see Pirates 3 with my girl and some of her freinds. Whent back out started the car noise was gone stupid me though nothing of it whent back to pick up my girl and was headed toward her freinds house. Now the noise started to pick up again and would start decelerating at nore than an 1/8 of the throttle and would start to race while decelerating.
Now i was about a mile from her freinds house where i had planned on parking it and getting it checked out tommorow/ today, came up to a stop light and it was stop go traffic now whenever I came to a complete stop the car would stall with the clutch fully disengaged on the peddle. Now I though hey maybe I should stop and park the car but no I was only a mile away Id get it there and park it and leave it be and get it towed to a shop to have it checked. i got about a 1/4 mile from her house started to move from a complete stop gears were now raceing no matter what the throttle was used at and i said enough attemted to get the car over to the side of the road at a steady 5 MPH in third gear it was at6 about 2500 RPMs and than all of a sudden BANG something flys up hits the passenger side of the floor a cloud of smoke poofs out of the engine bay I wanted to cry got out of my car looked around for the peice I saw fly out the back of my car. No sign of whatever it was anywhere. looked underneathe my car oil was on my pan but i had spilled a little on the engine so it was smoking from the excess oil I cant see any external damage but didnt get a good look tryed to start it after that all it does is struggle the first few cranks starts to crank it over and you can hear a faint squeek from somwere in the engine bay. oh also when i was trying to pull over i had my foot near the clutch and when ever the sound occured the clutch moved or vibrated. If there is anything else you would like to know that could help you solve this please go ahead and ask. I was thinking the clutch blew apart or something and was nos moving around inside the tranny but it shifted perfectly. and wouldnt grind while these problems were occuring.

no holes in the block that you can see? maybe threw a rod? could've shot it from the back of the block to the firewall. i threw a rod in my z6 and that bitch fucked up my hood pretty good it was crazy. and i tried to crank it just for ***** and it did the same thing as yours...

haha I hope it wasn't the rod man but it sounded like he has a rod digging a hole thro the cage. SMOKE AND OIL?

man..I love my car more than my gf, but you learned a lesson not to expletive with the engine. oh well goodl uck man...hopefuly it wasn't a rod digging a hole.

when your oil light comes on, just for future reference, its a good idea not to drive until you know what the problem is and have fixed it. sounds like you may have had your oil pump go out and continued to drive your car without circulating oil, this would mean that your engine is a good candidate for recycling ,and you need a new one. parts flying and spewing oil from unknown source would indicate parts seizing and breaking off. when you pull this engine out it will probably look like you were using it to test the accuracy of a tank cannon.

Thanks for the input so far guys keep it coming im praying I didnt bend, throw, dig a rod if i did im going to be pretty fucked right now strapped for cash from the tow alone. It sucks because it was running so well and was just about on 200k milestone for me. But anyway Im thinking im going to pulll the oil pan tommorow and see if i see anything. I know fora fact my clutch was going straight out the door this is the car I basically learned myself how to drive stick as well as my girl. So needless to say it could've used a new clutch anyway, Not to mention the guy before me didnt have any records from the car at the time of purchase which possibly means this could have been the original clutch. From the dealership purchase is it possibly i was a little to rough on it and the pads on the clutch broke off and fucked something up in the transmission? and if you guys have anything else i should take off and look at while im at it tommorow im open for suggestions.
Oh BTW my car is a 1996 civic CX hatch stock everything.
A few mins ago i took of the plugs and tried starting it it seemd to spin the motor perfectly with no bad noises i put the plugs back on it goes bac to making the noises i know the pistons arent hitting the plugs cause none of them are crushed. Also where is my oil pump on my D ive searched for it but cant find it is it part of the timing belt rotation?

So yea I found out what it is i couldnt see what was wrong because i was looking in the dark. Earlier today we jacked it up noticed peices of metal oll over my engine bay but couldnt find where they were from. My dad looked at my oil and found out there was no oil in the engine we then noticed a large amount of sprayed oil on the back of the cat and on the ac and radiator looked at the block behind the cat and saw there is a hole about 2 inches tall by 1 1/2 inches wide there im pullin aprt my entire motor and will take pics of the damage and post them Im still curious too what did it but moreso what caused this to happen.
So if anybody here has a long block d16 vtec motor lemme kno if you are willling to let go and are around northern NJ it needs to be in good running order please

holy **** man thats ghey lol i have a b16a long block i JUST built today has ARP headstuds, everything else is OE btw it needs a dizzy and valve cover I KEPT THE DIZZY OFF OF IT SO I CAN HEAD OVER TO THE JUNKYARD to find me an obd1 dizzy, throw me up an offer,

Alright guys here is some pics of the damage without out any dissasembly. As you can see its a rather large hole and is hidden behind the cat if you dont actually look there.

wow same thing happened with my friends basically brand new d15 b a hole on the fornt of the block the size of my fist (i have fat hands ) and a hole in the back of the block a little smaller hahaha a connecting rod broke and had a hay day oh well thats what he gets 12 psi spiking at around 14 psi on a 3 week old engine

not trying to be a dick, but it is a lesson u should learn. try to understand how an engine work and for see when something like a oil light came on mean. it is really stupid to drive the car when the engine is low on oil. how the car react gave u so many hints it was under serious problem and u ignored it. what you did is destructing your engine on purpose which make me sick. and oh yeah, don't cry about it because YOU could have save all this trouble by not driving your car, but it was YOU who decided "nah, that shouldn't be a problem" and keep driving the car until the engine die.

And as I stated the noise dissapeared until I was halfway to a freinds house I kept going because i didnt want to pay for towing and was almost there it was either get to my freinds house where it could be parked and towed for free by a family freind or pull over and pay 210 for towing the car 3 miles hmmmm you know what id rather spend that 210 on the new motor either way I would have had to replace the motor anyway......
So in final response I am glad it makes you sick because honestly the motor is worth **** and the only reason im pissed is because I had to pay a towing fee...
And well see if I could have saved the trouble when I open it up...
