Default oil pressure problem code 22

here's my problem....
i have a 95 d16z6(95 ex) motor with 140xxx miles on it.
i bought from a shop, i dont know any history of it but i know it came out of a 95 ex.
so i put it in my 92 civic cx and everything is good.
i was running 10-30 wt oil.
and every time i red line 2nd or 3rd check light pops on.
so i check the code and its 22. this is the code for oil pressure to the vtec soleniod.
so i switched to 20-50 oil, and cleand the vtec soleniod. and put it all back together.
it was all good a few redlines, then it poped agian. the motor reads 180-190 compression across the board... anyone help me? i would apeciate it.

Why dont you try the 5w-30? Why do you keep using thicker oil?

honda recommends 5w-30 for a reason.. why dont you try that and see how the motor runs??

The engine has 140K on it. Doesn't it seem probable that due to the high mileage, the bearing clearances could be a bit loose, thus causing low oil pressure?

That seems to be the only logical explanation to me. Therefore, using a thicker oil (20w-50) seems to be a good thing to try and raise the oil pressure. Using the thin 5w-30 would result in lower oil pressure. Maybe somebody here needs to save the for themselves.

Does anyone have any other <U>helpful</U> suggestions?

I agree this does sound possible along this chain of thought the problem could be associated with a failing oil pump. 140 miles isn't really much to a honda engine but 140k miles with a retarded honda owner could have caused some pump damage. before you do any major breakdown of the motor start off with the basics. eliminate a false codes caused by a failing sensor.

Do you have a presure problem or a sensor problem? What is your oil presure?

I experienced the same exact thing with my 95 civic ex. The original engine had seen autocrosses nearly every weekend since I bought the car new in 95. In May of 99, I drove the car (which at the time had 125k on the odo) to a PCA driving school at Roebling Road racetrack eight hours away with complete confidence that it would make it back. At the end of the first day of hard driving, the check engine light came on and I simply pulled into the pits, turned the engine off, turned it back on, and went back out. The car ran great for a few laps and the same thing happened again. The next lap brought total destruction of the bottom end. (Broken connecting rod.) I accreditted my misfortune to the stock oil pan with no real baffles and assumed that it was temporary oil starvation due to the extreme g's I was pulling in the flat-out, near redline, sweepers.

My next step was to buy another stock bottom end from a well known Honda junkyard and install a Moroso Road Race oil pan and oil pressure guage on it and hoped that this would solve the problem. WRONG!!!

I got my road racing licencse last year in the 2000-2001 season and did 5 races and every freaking time I got on the track, I ended up with the same CODE 22.
I tried everything from replacing the VTEC pressure switch to different oil to you-name-it and came back with the same results--starting out kicking butt, still finishing, but not where I wanted to.

This year, I decided to buck up and try something totally different. I decided to start from scratch. While having a race engine being built for me at OPM, I purchased a used engine for $250 (let's call it engine #3), dropped it in, added an oil cooler, bigger crx radiator, and went to CMP for the first Honda Challenge race. The engine ran flawlessly, kept steady oil pressure, and in fact, finished first in class!

Here's the kicker....
When OPM took apart engine number 2, they found that the bottom end that I had bought used had been rebuilt using NON-FACTORY HONDA BEARINGS and concluded that that was the root of my low oil pressure frustrations.

I still don't know why the original engine blew up, but the code said CODE 22. Maybe it just needed a rebuild after 125k miles of hard driving and only the extremes of road racing made fate show its evil face. Go figure.

My advice is to find another cheap D16Z6 and hopefully it will work. I hope this helps. I'm sorry I was so long-winded, but I truly do understand your dilemma.
