Default oil in my throttle body....

well i took my engine out and i just changed my rear main gasket out and was wondering if its bad to have oil in the throtlle body... but there was none in there when i had the motor in the car i guess its from moving the motor around? but i did drain the oil before removing the engine i guess there was just a little in there, but can i just get some throttle body cleaner or somthing and clean it out or will it be ok?

It's bad because it can gum up and cause all kinds of hell, but its not lethal.

The source of the oil is from a clogged PCV valve. A clogged valve will allow vapors to be pushed out the valve cover breather into the intake manifold, plastering the throttle plate. $6 fix or less at the dealer.

Did it appear on the front of the plate, or did it look like it was leaking around the edges of the plate? Some oil in there is acceptable as long as its on the manifold side of the plate.

If its dried or baked on there, that just fine, dirty, but normal. If you tipped the motor over oil should not go rushing into the intake very easily, unless you left it that way for a while.

If your a clean freak like me, id pull it apart and clean it completely if you can shell the money for gaskets. I wouldn't want to spray all kinds of crap in there with it on the engine.

This happened while the motor was out right? And there was no oil there when you first pulled the engine right? Thats what I got from your post. If that is the case, then just clean it up and you're good.

Powdered? Or just black baked on oil?

That is normal, some PCV vapors get in there and can paste themselves all over like that.

Thats pretty normal as long as it is not too thick and wet, as in soaked like an oil leak.
