I don't trust it unless it's from the dealer I'm hesitant of anything but... i even collect the invoice slips so when i sell it i have proof of it done right. Not saying you can't do it another way but i need things asap all the time and don't mind paying for the convince.

I decided that I'm just gonna return the kit and forget about it. If my engine destroys itself im just gonna modify the car auto -> manual, SOHC -> dual cam. I wanted to keep it stock and find an RS Integra or DX civic but not having good luck finding a POS with a bad H/G or reasonably priced integra

Integra's carry a premium lol

Yeah I saw one for sale today coming back for school he was asking 2,200 and the interior was trashed. It was a stick tho and that's what I'm trying to get my hands on to avoid having to salvage all the parts. It took almost ten seconds for my engine to start tonight I think its really time to decide which DOHC engine I want

Won't a swap cost about $2200? Or more?

OR I could have my bro's friend sell me a b16 complete swap for 400-500$. he'l help me with the labor being that he spends 8 hours a day working on heavy machinery and then 8 hours working on his friends cars anyway. I think he actually wants to do it for the fun of it or something.

True, sorry for jacking your thread OP.

moral of this story: Gates absolutely insists this Chinese water pump is awesome. Their Honda engineer, tech department, and salesmen will give you there different answers about the water pumps. They're a big business and care more about money than our engines overheating.

lesson learned: DO NOT BUY A GATES COMPlETE KIT WITH THE WATER PUMP. Their belts are reputable, their tensioner is japanese, I cant vouch for the spring but 45$ for all three, less than any of em alone cost from Honda is a great deal. On the other hand, buy a real water pump with a real impeller not their cast iron crap..

"Gates: the design of the impeller doesn't have any effect on anything".
"me: If I cut all the fins in half that won't do anything right?"

I've never seen a Gates water pump like that before. I remember installing a kit on a b16 for a friend with ntk tensioner and everything looked great and went well. I honestly think that OP had a fake.

I still find it odd that the water pump pictured came from a Gates kit. The Gates kit that I bought for the motor I'm building definitely had the same impeller design as the OEM pump that I took off the motor in the first place.

Guys I spent 3+ hours on this topic with gates.

the saleman told me there IS actually an alternate gates part # for a stainless steel impeller, part # 41045. The cast iron piece is #41040.

their Honda specialist told me they purposefully package only the iron impeller for the D16z6, 92 - 95 civic. Or they sell a cheapo kit and also a high end kit, the cheapo one is TCKWP224A for sure tho, this is what the salesmen says.

perhaps this issue is ONLY for ppl with D16Z6s, but it shows something about their character to pass off crappy water pumps as "Genuine OE quality". It also shows something about their Tech department when they can make claims like "the design of the piece that moves the water, does not effect how much water is moved". He basically said that. What a load of crap

So some SOHC guys say their aftermarket water pumps are crappy too. I wouldn't be surprised if the inferior aftermarket water pump without the "breather ports" is a gates product as well. I thought these folks touting OEM Honda stuff were just Honda fan boys. But they happen to be spot on with the SOHC water pumps.

All I ever use is OEM stuff when it comes to seals, pumps, belts etc unless it's a proven performance product that I can benefit from over the OEM.

It's not just the water pumps, ball joints, tie rod ends, seals, ignition components, accessory belts, and thermostats are all like that
