New member, need A/C info '92 Civic VX
Hiya, chaps!
New member here. I just bought a '92 Civic VX from a friend. He said the reason the A/C doesn't work is that rodents ate an electrical cable between the top of the A/C compressor and the A/C fan housing. He wasn't kidding, it looks like someone clipped it in two accessible places with side cutter. I think it is part of the A/C Thermal Protector group. Can anyone enlighten on this cable is for? Is there an online source for such odds and ends, preferably used? Honda Parts will probably make me buy a kit with related parts I don't need.

Good source of OEM honda parts are good prices. You would be surprised at how cheap some stuff is.

I am not yet allowed to post attachments (pics.) Atop the compressor on the inboard side is recessed a black clylindrical object with two wires emanating from it. In order to splice my missing wire, I need to remove this object from its recess so as to gain easy access to the chain of wires interconnected to it. I can just gain grip on it with pliers, and can wiggle it slightly, but it does not lift out freely. I'm afraid to damage it.
What is this object, and should it lift out freely?
(When the site allows me to post pictures, I will.)

I found out via a friend of a friend that the black object is a thermal protector module. It is glued into its recess atop the A/C compressor using "special ATV" compound, which may be thermal conductive. If I force the glue bond apart, I may damage the module in doing so (yanking with pliers) and if I do not break it, I still need to glue it back in again, which will require the right ATV compound.
This is getting much more complicated. Does no one here have direct experience with this A/C system?
Also, anyone know why I am not receiving all the instant email notifications from this thread? I am signed up for them, and they are not in my SPAM folder.
