Need Suggestions
I'm new to the forums so I'm not exactly for sure where to post this.
I'm looking for a b series budget build for a civic coupe. Year between 92 & 00.
I have not bought the civic yet, it is soon to come.
I am hoping for 250-274 whp money is not necessarily an issue I'd just like to keep it to a minimum.
Thank You,
BubbaDeuces

Re: Need Suggestions
Well, that is all I want for now. As I'm only 16 I want to gradually work my way up to a faster and faster car. I know about cars, and I want to go to school to be an automotive technician in the future. I know some about swaps and wiring and stuff, I just needed a few suggestions/boosts in the right direction as my mind is all kinds of cluster f#*$ed on what to do. Most of the experience I do have is with hondas. I helped a buddy put an JDM h22 in his prelude (was an f22) and I've also helped a buddy rebuild his head on a 92 civic (not sure of the motor).
Is the b18b an easy motor to build up for higher horsepower/torque numbers in the future?

Re: Need Suggestions
The Z6 comes across my mind quite often as far as SOHC turbo's. As much as I'm on here, and as much as I read people's builds, I never really see many LS' without someone swapping a VTEC head on it. What are the Positives and Negitives of keeping it non-VTEC, minus the fact of not having VTEC?

Money just comes pretty easily to me is all.
Already have high-school diploma + good job + friends in shops = cheaper parts and money.

Re: Need Suggestions
stock internals should be fine for your power level. Just a word of advice from someone just a little bit older than you. Enjoy it while you can because when you move out on your own all of your car money goes to rent :-(

Yeah, I know, I'm dreading the day. Thats why I'm hoping to get the car done before I'm out on my own. After I finish a few more classes I'm moving in with the lady friend, that just graduated high-school, and got a scholarship to Chicago. The only shitty part is their emissions there. Kansas doesn't do crap for emissions where Chicago I hear is a pain in the ***.

Re: Need Suggestions
Emissions isn't terrible as long as you don't live in honda-hell aka California... Just don't remove emissions components like the EGR from the car and make sure you have a fresh cat and you will be solid. I'm lucky and live in a county in MD that doesn't have any emissions testing but I am confident that my car would pass as it stands... Another word of advice, don't get a pet no matter how much your girlfriend begs you... Don't ask how I know...

Re: Need Suggestions
Greddy makes a solid kit, I think that would be the way to go. Piecing together kits yourself just never turns out as well as the off the shelf kits. God I hate bulldogs...

Re: Need Suggestions
For everything. Like the motor, tranny, turbo setup, motor upgrades/bolt ons. I'll probably just buy a cleanish shell and drop the motor in it and everything. I'm just wanting to know a little price range.

Re: Need Suggestions
You're looking at around 2k for the motor/tranny, $800 for a good intake/exhaust, and about $3500 for the turbo kit. None of that includes labor which would be a lot if you weren't going to do it yourself. Might I suggest looking for a car that already has an LS swap. They are fairly common, inexpensive and it would save you a bit of money to start. You just have to be careful and make sure a quality job was done...

Re: Need Suggestions
See if you can verify where the motor came from. If you are familiar with hondas and swaps you can tell a lot by just popping the hood. Are the wires nice and secured or does it look like spaghetti? Did the guy use quality parts? The guy should be able to tell you when all the maintenance has been done and should have receipts for all parts... Does the motor burn oil? Are there any visible leaks? Are there any CEL's? The best way to go is to perform a compression and leakdown test on the motor. If the owner has nothing to hide then he should agree to it. It doesn't take long and doesn't cost much and any shop can do it...
