My hopeful Del Sol build. Two 1993 Del Sols become one.
So after getting rid of my 2nd Del Sol a couple years ago for a Prelude, I am now sort of back in the game. I was able to pick up not 1, but TWO 93 Del Sols for $550. Both (sort of) run. I am not 100% sure what the end result will be, but I will end up with 1 good car from the 2 bleh cars.
Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.
Pictures are to follow once I can get to an actual PC rather then my phone.

So here are the pics, the green car is going to be the end car, the white one is going to be the donor car for parts, I will be stripping that, and then getting rid of the rolling chassis.

Also, anyone know how to get into the trunk of a del sol that doesn't have a key cylinder or popper by the driver seat? As you can see in the pics, someone has already done it once by bending and twisting the metal, I just don't know

So spent a little time on the white car today. Stripped everything out of the trunk, took the trunk lid off in prep to go on the green car. Vacuumed the interior carpet and took out the seats. Tomorrow I will finish stripping the rest of the interior, then finish bringing the busted windshield down and vacuuming up those pieces, then pulling motor.

Also the manual will be transferred over to the green one.

Re: My hopeful Del Sol build. Two 1993 Del Sols become one.
Spent some time today taking out most of the rest of the interior and pulling motor then finished smashing in the windshield (didn't wanna smash it while there was carpet in the car) and vacuumed up all the little pieces. I was able to get that done with very little leakage from my body. All that's left to do it taking out the dash and taking out the the stuff that I want for the green car.
While taking out the motor I was amazed by the shape of the front of the car. The radiator was held in place by like 3 zip ties at the top, nothing at the bottom. All the heater and radiator hoses were kept on with zip ties rather than hose clamps. Overflow reservoir for the radiator was on the driver side, where the P/S reservoir would of been. Front cross bar that the hood latch bolts to was held in place by zip ties. Other parts of the front are all cut up. Only thing I had to do was clip some zip ties, and undo 4 bolts and the whole front came off to where I could guide the engine out of the bay through the hole where the radiator mounts. Some MOTOR MOUNT bolts were barely more than finger tight. Other than that it was a fairly straightforward pull.
On the other hand, I am starting to get rid of some parts so if anyone is interested in parts for your del sol, let me know what you need and I'll see if I have it available.

Re: My hopeful Del Sol build. Two 1993 Del Sols become one.
Alright...I've been thinking this out and I got my first question with my dilemma:
I have Del Sol A which is an automatic Si with the 1.6L VTEC. Del Sol B is a stick shift S with 1.5L non-VTEC. Main goal is to have the 1.6L attached to the manual transmission in Del Sol A.
Here are my options:
1) using engine wiring harness from Del Sol B because it does not have all those plugs for the automatic transmission for a cleaner look.....however, it also does not have the VTEC plugs......
2) use engine wiring harness from Del Sol A, but then I got all those extra plugs for an automatic Trans that I'm not using.....
Also: what ECU do I use?
option 1) Use ECU from Del Sol A which is a VTEC ECU but then I'll get CEK codes because it's looking for an automatic Trans that isn't there.
Option 2) Use ECU from Del Sol B, not have CEL codes due to the trans, but that ECU is not "wired" for VTEC....
Any suggestions?
EDIT: does anyone have any feedback in this ( https://honda-tech.com/tech-misc-15/diy-how-convert-obd1-automatic-ecu-manual-2969571/ ) it seems like it might solve my problem with using the automatic ECU that has the VTEC in it but will eliminate my issue with CEL codes because it doesn't "see" the auto trans

Soo....de-loom both wiring harnesses, add the VTEC solenoid plug into the harness that doesn't have it, use that harness and then use the above guide to convert the ECU from the Si from automatic to manual.

I didnt de-loom my harness the 2nd time around, I just use loomed it separately and pin the wires to the ecu plugs. Its all going to be hidden anyways...

Cool, that issue solved then. On the side of the ECU, anyone have any experience with the auto to manual ECU conversion by removing the 17 and 18 resistors?

Re: My hopeful Del Sol build. Two 1993 Del Sols become one.
Good Afternoon Everyone!
So little update and requesting some input. The white parts car is completely stripped, so I am about to get rid of that. Since it has no title to it, it seems like it might just have to go to a scrap metal yard since people don't wanna buy a bare bones rolling shell with no title. Once I get rid of that and have some room in the garage, it's time to tear down and work on the green car.
Speaking of the green car, I got it running (ish) yesterday.
At idle (which I can't see what it idles at because the Tach doesn't work) it is really shaky. The cam shaft timing belt gear wobbles around (there is no timing belt cover on it which is how I know). Once I press the gas the engine smooths out but when it goes back to idle it vibrates like crazy again. I understand this could be a mount issue so I'll check those. BUT.....there is a tapping noise in the engine, what would be my best course of action to diagnose what this noise is?
I am going to be taking the engine apart and cleaning it up so I'll get a good look at everything when I'm doing that, I would just like to know with that tapping sound, if there is something that I should be looking out for.
Thanks!
PS: I can post a video of the engine that I took yesterday. I'm just at work right now so I'll have to wait till I get home

Here is the video of it running, sorry for the orientation. Sound is what matters I guess.
