Default Modified Exhaust Violation - Spoon N1 w/ silencer - is it less than 95db???

I was just cited a ticket for a modified exhaust violation. I have to get the car checked at a BAR station and appear in court. The officer did not use a db gun or anything. I have a spoon n1 w/ silencer and a t1r b pipe. Does anyone with similar mods know whether my exhaust system is less than 95db?

every engine is different, if you had a cat and the silencer in there you probably are below 95.

-shakes head-

exhaust noise, aye.... just check it out. if u fail then u know that its too noisy and the officer was correct (using his ear-crometer). but if u pass, then u have proof that he's wrong.

keep us posted

Heh!

I had a cop pull me over once...

He gave me a choice - loud muffler or reckless driving!

I took the loud muffler ticket... even though I was perfectly legal.

Only reason I'm telling you this is because it sounds like you pissed that cop off for some reason, just like what happened to me - that's all. Now he's got you jumping through the hoops...

What lead up to this ticket anyway? Just curious!

I was lighting 'em up in an alley and he heard me from the street...

Nothing. I was driving the speed limit and following all other rules. Cop saw me and pulled a U-ie just to get me. He pulled me over and the first thing he asked me was to pop my hood. Got me for a modified exhaust. 3rd time this has happened to me. The first two times the officers let me go. I asked one of the previous officers if my exhaust was loud and they said nah. This cop gave me some bs about how an exhaust can't be louder than stock.

I hate pulling out my Live Sound experience in car threads...

when the law states 95 dbs... is that A or C weight... and where are they taking the measurements? on the tip or 1 meter away.

By the way, Radio Shack sells a DB meter with A & C weights.

thats probably at 8500rpm, the test for dB in california is at about 4000rpm and there is no way its cracking 110dB at 4000rpm

i think its dumb that the cops bust down on cars like they do they should be giving them guys with Harley's tickets two!! those things are ridiculously loud compared to us. I've gotten 2 tickets for exhaust violation but i won. and my buddy with a 68 camaro that has side exit exhaust on it gets hasseled all the time, but we are both legal in michigan. there are no set in stone laws here for car noise or emissions here luckly.

I got popped for speeding in Cali once.

I was looking in front of me... behind me... overheard... but...

I missed a Highway Patrol cruiser pacing me on the opposite side of the freeway, on a frontage road. Tricky bastards!!!

While the cop was writing me up I asked him, "How come you pulled me over? Those other cars are going faster than me!"

He smiled and said, "It's like fishing - you can't catch them all!"

LoL! I'll NEVER forget that saying...

Personally, I think it' more like hunting - especially in the OP's case, where the cop hangs a U-turn and chases him down.

The cop probably just doesn't like Euros / Ricers - that's all...

I was hoping i could put the stock muffler on w/ the t1r b pipe, but now i'm getting an exhaust leak. Guess the stock bpipe is going on too now. this sucks...

yeah i got pulled over for mine before but i never even had to get it checked out at any place because i got in a damn accident. cops are dicks when it comes to exhaust. the cop that pulled me over said that if he can hear the exhaust with his windows up and his cop radio on then its too loud, yet he pulled me over under a bridge. talk about bad luck, then a week later i got into the accident

well you have to realize that the ek9 muffler which is at 110db is from the b16b motor and the eg9 muffler which is 90 db is b16 motor so it is not really the muffler itself in my opinion but the motor and what mods you have on it

it looks like you made a mistake...there is a differences between HATCHBACK vs. COUPE...

-----

Tail Silencer N1 Type (R) EG9
Our Price: $549.00

Fits 92-00 Civic 2 door coupe models.
Noise level: 90dB
Weight: 15.43lbs. (Std 18.74lbs)

------

Tail Silencer N1 Type (R) EG6/EK9 (92-00 Civic H.B.)
Our Price: $549.00

Fits: 92-00 Civic HB
Noise level: 110dB
Weight: 7.94lbs. (Std 18.74lbs)

------

the N1 muffler is the same between 92-95 & 96-00 Hatchback..."YoungMoneySi" is correct about the motor tho...each motor will produce a different db sound....it really doesnt matter about the info, but i wish the OP good luck thru court.

i live in SouthCarolina.. But from my experience a cop can't pull you over and give you a speeding ticket if you were in the flow of traffic (other cars) unless he pulls the whole bunch over.. because i went to court witha friend for getting 92 in a 70 and there were 5 or 6 other cars around us and we told the judge and he said "well you can't pull one person if 5 others or doing the same thing... case dismissed"

but we don't have emission laws !! but we pay road tax <3 SC

LoL! That reminds me of another Cali story...

I was outside Blythe (on the Arizona border) and that's EXACTLY what happened!

Highway Patrol passed us doing about 120. A couple of minutes later we caught up with him.

He was standing behind his car, by the side of the road, pointing at us individually and signaling us to pull over as we approached!!!

He got like 10-15 cars for speeding at the same time - guess he was pacing us as a group.

I was sitting there for like an hour and a half before he got to me...

-------------------------

Damn - this thread is bring back a lot of bad memories in Cali...

I got a ticket for jay walking in San Diego once - really!

And another one for riding a bicycle in Oceanside with no headlight.

Hell, I fell asleep in my car once in Pacific Beach and they threw me in jail for 3 days for "suspicion" - suspicion of what, I never found out - I guess I just *looked* suspicious sleeping in my car in the middle of the day...

Man, they got some weird laws over there in Cali - and some weird cops!!!
