Default Mini Me Swap D15b7 block with a Z6 head need help

I did a search on the subject and got the info i wanted all except for one thing. Which water pump do you use? I have a B7 block with a Z6 head. I read that you could use a VX water pump or a B7 pump. But they are different. Which to use?

ok i put a new Z6 belt on and the car idles fine now, i let it warm up and i gave it alittle gas and i heard a "click" noise and the motor died. It won't start now and the timing belt is still connected.

personally, i think you shoulda gone with the y8 head with a z6 gasket and timing belt

did you change the belt to what matches the cam? cause that sound you heard was probably the belt skipping a tooth and sliding off. do you have your cam cover off?

well, i read on here that there is a vx dx and ex belt to use. THe dx was too loose, the ex was alittle tight around the cam when i put it on. I really never adjusted the adjuster. I thought if had adjusted the tensioner the belt would pop again from being too tight. am i wrong here

as far as timing goes, when i turned the cam to tdc, the crank pulley marks are foward toward the front of the engine. I know that i should have to look at the oil pump gear, but would the crank pulley give me an indicator? Where should the crank pulley marks be when the cam is at tdc?

first I would check to make sure that you didn't skip time for your belt being to loose and then I would tighten your belt. This might sound ghetto as hell but it is fast and trust me it works I just did it and it takes 5 minutes.

1st take out either spark plug on either end of the motor, either 1 or 4
2nd then get a clothe hanger or something long and stick it down their.
3rd you should be able to turn your bottom pulley with a 17mm you want to make the piston go all the way to the top and there the piston will hit a dead spot (that's the reason for the clothe hanger so you can see when it stops pushing it up). Then adjust the top (the head) and line up the lines and put back on your belt.

Hope you got it, it's kinda hard to explain without actually talking to ya.

thanks man, good idea. But before i go any further, i need to figure out if the ex belt is the wrong belt or not for a b7/z6 head combo. WHen i but the belt on, there was alittle struggle with putting the belt around the cam gear and the tensioner was way loose. Is this normal?

honestly with swapping that I'm not sure. But I know if you change the head or replace HG and just slide the belt off and then put it back on you will have a lil slack cause you stretched it and will have to tighten it.

For a b7/z6 mini-me, use:
- b7 water pump
- z6 timing belt
- b7 tensioner (which you have to loosen to get the belt on)
- y7/y8 or adjustable cam gear
- z6/y8 MLS head gasket

Double check your cam timing using the marks on the cam gear and the TDC mark on the crank pulley.

ill help you guys out since i did a b7/z6 mini-me swap.
-z6 is on both the ex and si so it will fit
-you use the z6 timing belt b7 is too long and the hx is too tight
-you can use the z6 headgasket but i used the y8 because it is metal(if you use y8, peices of the headgasket will stick out a bit, its fine tho. also be sure to use gasket sealer. trust me or else u will leak a little oil)
-the b7 water pump will work fine.
-you dont have to get adjustable cam gear
-when trying to put on the timing belt, it will be off by a little.(match the lines on the cam and if the crank is off like half a tooth, it is fine)

if you go more questions ill try to help you out
also dont forget to remove the oil jet.

That's why you need either an adjustable or a y7/y8 gear.
