Just bought a 97 civic
Hey all,
I am new to this the honda-tech.com
I have just get a 97 civic LX, not much has done on the car and have been wondering the right octane #. She has the stock, D16Y7, engine.
I am think to change the headlight from customlightz.com, what do you guys think?
Any recommendation to make my car looks better? like suspension and etc...
I will post some pictures later.
Thanks

Your car, so its up to you. Definetly going to need a different engine y7's suck period(for performance at least) let alone any D-Series at that matter.

Re: Just bought a 97 civic (motorD16Y7)
you can run 87 octane in it...if you want. you get a little better performance out of 89 or 91. but sometimes i run 87 in mine...not much difference. if you had the y8 i wouldnt run anything but 91. and as far as suspension go, i would go with tein springs with kyb struts. is it 5 speed or auto? i would swap a different motor in there besides the y7, even if its just a y8. but hope you like your civic...i love mine! good luck.

Thanks. My car is manual.
Sorry I have not have time to take pictures of my car yet.
How much do you think to swap a d16y8? If I swap the engine, what is need to be consider?
I am now running 89 octane and it is good. you are right, KYB is good. I put the basic KYB strut in the front and is saving money to do the rest. Good call
Is there anyone has any recommend website to buy honda parts?

depending on the condition of the body - i would just get her cleaned up nice, keep the oem bumpers, put a front lip on it, suspension, nice set of rims (15 or 16 inch are ideal), good tires (michelin, bfgoodrich) and id say your set.
if you want a nice sound with no real performance gain, research good sounding intakes and a cat back exhaust (Apex'I WS2 cat back exhaust) and call it a day.
good luck and welcome to HT

You can definatley make your car LOOK better by getting suspension.
Screw performance.

a d16y8 will go anywhere from $600-$1100 depending on where you get it. to do this swap, all you really need is the motor, ecu, and wiring harness. your tranny will work (even though if you want better performance, get the si or ex tranny) and so will your motor mounts and axles. so thats about all you need. as far as websites go, check these out...

if you are talking about the B16 SI tranny..that DEFINITELY wont bolt up to a D series motor..the best tranny to get for a D series is the 96-2000 EX tranny..which comes with a complete D16Y8 swap.

Re: (ChadB)
It don't look to bad now. Just lower it and save for a swap. Y8's are pretty peppy with the right work done to them. Or just save up and do a b-series swap.

lol..i like my 92 hatch..best civic ever made as far as body style goes.. merry x mas</TD></TR></TABLE>
I had a 92' Si and sure it was nice, but I also had a 99' Four door with a K swap and it made those EG's look ugly. If it was the best body style, they would've kept it running longer ^^^

Re: (bbandco_keevee)
preference the 92-95 civic hatch was a european design which didn't go over well lol
the 02-05 civic si is also european design... give it 2 years and see how many people want one

Re: Just bought a 97 civic (Agent_EM1)
just keep it clean is all i can say. A simple lip and lowered will make your 4 door look a lot better. It looks like you've bought it already with some exterior mods(rear lip, front lip, lowered, etc.)
What's your budget like?
