Ignition timing with no tach
Hi there
I'm replacing the distributor cap on my 1995 Civic tonight, and I'm also going to check ignition timing. Only problem is that I have a DX model and so I have no tachometer. I know that the red mark on the pulley is supposed to line up with the pointer at standard idle speed, but I don't know if my idle speed is to spec since I have no tach to check.
The idle sounds fine, but I'm not positive that it's correct. Should I time it to the speed my engine DOES idle at, or do I need to make sure that I've got a proper idle first?

i don't know what to tell you. short of purchasing a new light, or a tach, or a cluster with a tach, there is no way to know the exact rpm...
or, just adjust the idle until the mark appears where it shoud, then set timing...
