Re: How Rare to find clean, stock 92-95 civic vx?
i have one. bought it for $400 about a year and a half ago from my friend. trans, clutch, and flywheel were busted but i've put about $2,500 in maintenance and about $600 in other random stuff and its looking really nice. it was in a small accident and needs a new core support, hood, and bumper but i still drive it as it is all the time.
what i really want to do is get a new oem core support put on, but i'm waiting on finding a decent hood/fender in red from the junk yard. reason being is i don't want to re-paint it as that will cost quite a bit. also i like to keep it low key to avoid thieves. and all the panels will match.
but so far i've done:
flywheel/clutch
synchrotech vx trans
dizzy
full a/c swap
tie rods/bellows/alignment
replaced missing vx wheel
front pads/rotors
driver cv shaft
duralast gold battery
head unit/12" sub
viper 5704 alarm
13% window tint
basically the only things i have left that i want to do are
power windows/locks
couple more sensors for alarm
fix front end damage
audio console
double din
components up front
rear speaker grills/coaxials
cup holders in old radio location
hasport motor mounts
exedy clutch/flywheel (think mine is warped or installed wrong or not torqued down right. has lots of chatter at low rpm. still works fine for the most part.)
and possibly a full gsr b18b swap. want to pull the d15z1 and put it into storage mode so i can swap the two motors easily/keep it so i can have one for fun and one for road trips. although i may just sell the d15 in its entirety because its driveable with no a/c but my god the power/mpg loss is insane with just the a/c on. can probably get the same mpg from a b18b running a/c just because of how much more efficiently it will run. if it do do the swap, want to do it clean and oem as possible. like if honda put one in from the factory.

I have a 94. Got it from someone that took really good care of it. Bone stock drivetrain, slapped an amazing paint job on it ($3500 OUCH!), wheels, tires, koni yellows, tint, hatch spoiler and some nice del sol seats. Car looks absolutely mint, drives perfectly and handles amazingly as well....and still gets 40+mpg if I'm nice to it....
Its the cleanest one you could ever find! Whats it worth to you??
Check out how that paint lights up in the sun! By far the best red paint I have ever seen.....I'm 32 and have been building cars my entire life....
She's not going to be stock for long though.....I'm starting a J32 swap this weekend. Swore I'd just use the car for economy, but it looks so fast and handles so good, I cant wait to have the torque and HP of the V6 in there....
And yes, I will be waaaay over my head in this one...as I am with every car I have ever built..... Oh well! It'll be fun....

I dont feel too bad knowing that this one is getting an upgrade instead of just being butchered.
I can sell you my entire VX drivetrain, ecu, axles, shifter, basically full swap and you can put it into the hatch of your choice. The only difference with the VX is that the body is a touch lighter which really does not compute to a substantial mpg increase. I have the stock VX wheels too....

To answer the OP's question, they are really rare. You have to wait and scour craigs list just about every day. I have had 2 of them. If they are bone stock, in good condition and not outrageously expensive, they sell quickly. I got mine for $3500 with 150k on it really clean inside, runs perfect, lots of new parts...ac, bushings, a few other upgrades...straight body, but paint was trashed, but not anymore!!
Keep your eye out for em...theyre out there... Dont be afraid to drive a ways for them too.....the good deals never fall in your lap

Re: How Rare to find clean, stock 92-95 civic vx?
I searched for about six years for one. I always wanted a VX for the mpg. I found mine on craigslist 3 hours away for $1000. Got the guy to come down to $600. Sometimes I regret buying it. I've owned it for almost five months and haven't done much with it. I don't drive it because it needs a headgasket. It still runs and drives but it smokes and leaks oil. Also has front end damage that needs to be taken care of. Has like 260k or something. But it's a decent car. I've cleaned up the interior real well with GSR seats and brand new OEM floor mats. I'm excited to actually start driving it.
I bought this one because I figured I would have trouble coming across another one. Well within a month I could have spent $1500 and gotten a much better platform. But it's all good, I like bringing cars back from the dead and saving them, especially a rare gem like a VX.
Here's a few pictures of what it was like when I got it. I cracked the windshield because the hood flew up. It's held on by a chain and I didn't have it secured.. For whatever reason I just can't bring myself to get rid of this thing no matter how difficult it is owning it right now.

Well if you want to sell me the l1h1 o2 sensor and the exhaust manifold and cat that would be sweet seeing as you don't need them anymore. Let me know.

Re: How Rare to find clean, stock 92-95 civic vx?
Last winter I went to check out a 92 Civic DX in Bend, Oregon for my dad who lives in Idaho, showed up and found a pristine VX that had been parked in a garage for 10 years with 140k and zero issues(besides a quarter sized paint chip in the front bumper). The decal had fallen off the trunklid and he didn't know what he had. We paid $2200, he literally gets stopped every day with people trying to buy it.
So advice, definitely be patient, willing to travel, and willing to do some research, they're still out there, but some people either don't know what they have or have trashed them by this point. But for gas mileage+reasonable peppiness, VX all day long.

It took me a year. I drive 70 miles a day so it's all about mpg.

www.aerocivic.com
type into google: site:craigslist.org "civic vx" and then bookmark that search. That's how I found my minty stock VX for $2100 less than 2 hours from my rural location.
oh, hi there Rusty Didn't I just sell you 4 wheels?

The guy who bought my GSR for parts has a franken civic, Rebuilt his motor and tuned with a VX spec. Last he told me he was getting up to 750km on a single tank
I'm honestly not sure the extent of the work but it was making around 70hp. /coolstory
I haven't really seen any for sale locally. Patience is virtue with any car really.

Depends on where you live. No real import scene here. All muscle car fanatics. MANY unmolested Civics here. I can count at least half a dozen within walking distance. All trims all models.

Re: How Rare to find clean, stock 92-95 civic vx?
After working all summer to get a civic, the cheapest, best looking one on craigslist that i found after a week of looking happened to be a VX (pretty much the one model i didn't want) , I paid 1600 for it with a little rear quarter damage... look at all the hatches, and see if there's the vx sticker on the back, a lot of people don't even know it's a VX or that it's minorly special...
